wademaster1 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Anybody use these for smallies in rivers?? I've caught just about every species on them I think. Just haven't got them to the river yet. Thanks. Color suggestions are welcome too. I've done we'll with the all white and white and pink. Good fishing to you all and happy holidays. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 24, 2012 Global Moderator Posted December 24, 2012 Roadrunners and beetle spins both can be surprisingly effective on river smallies. Seems like the solid colors like white, brown, and black are the best colors for me most of the time. 1 Quote
d3bf48 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Yes they work well. The tiny white marabou ones are killer in the spring. Quote
wademaster1 Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 I figured the smallies would kill em, afterall, there's not many fish that won't hit roadrunners. Quote
je1946 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Caught a 4lb river smallie on a blk with a small yellow mr twister trailer, that was about 8 yrs ago haven't really fished em much lately but then again I don't do that much river fishing anymore Quote
paul mueller Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 They also work well in lakes in deep water with slender swimbaits attached: 1 Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Great information. I am going to have to try this rig on the Columbia River. Quote
John Buzzell Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 I have fished roadrunners for years on the Mississippi River with great success. Since the mighty Mississippi is muddy I usually white or chartreuse 1 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Yes, of course they'll work (is there an echo in here?) They slay crappie and walleye too. I'd recommend checking out the "Northland Whistler Jig." I just prefer the design over Roadrunners. The prop design slows the jig on the fall, and also gives it a nice fluttering action. Similar type of lure though. http://www.basspro.com/Northland-Fishing-Tackle-Whistler-Jigs/product/29820/?cm_ven=bazaarvoice&cm_cat=RLP&cm_pla=29820&cm_ite=productname_link 1 Quote
