Super User deep Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 I'd prefer something in length longer than 7' (around 7'6" would be perfect). This rod must excel in fishing 1/2 oz jigs. I might go slightly lighter (like 3/8 oz) occasionally, but that's about it. I'll not be doing any pitching/ flipping with this, just fishing casting jigs in mostly open water; with braid + leader. Thanks for any pointers. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 Look into JB custom rods. Great rod builder and he will customize it however you want. Quote
Arv Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Just got a 7'2 H/XF M1 for this application and I'll be using braid or braid + fc leader. I have yet to use it but everything I've heard is that this is a great rod for the price. Holding it initially, it feels awesome. I plan on using it for jigs, t-rigs and other bottom contact applications (3/8oz and up). I'll also throw out the St. Croix Avid and the Cashion casting rods. St. Croix has a larger following than Cashion, but again, everything I've read about these has been nothing but awesome for the price point. You can find a lot of reviews on all these rods too. Quote

I had John do one for me, and had him tweak it to my specs....very satisfied! I had the grip specified to full cork, which suits me better. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 St Croix Avid 7' MH/F........It don't get better than that for jigs under $200. Quote
jignfule Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 MBR 844c IMX great jig rod, find a good used one around $180 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 Phenix recon 715 for a rod that can be had for under $200 without a special sale price. If you are thinking dobyns the 4 or 5 powers dobyns rods would be fine but you would need a sale for the champion line to be within reach. The cumara line is also very good but harder to find since few places have any left. For jigs around the 1/2 oz I would look at the 7'2 mh xf rod. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 Yup, JB Customs does all my rods that aren't Cumaras, and they are baaaad mamma jammas! Have John do up a jig rod for you, and you'll be in love! Of course, if you want off the shelf, the 7'7" Heavy/Fast Cumara really shines with 1/2-1oz jigs in deeper water with heavy flouro (or braid/flouro leader). Quote
nwmike Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 powell endurance 764 .best football jig and off shore rod i have ever used. Quote
