fish-fighting-illini Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 For those of you who have used SI how do you like it? I fish mainly small shallow lakes 6' to max 20' deep. The lake that I fish the most has submerged farm drainage rows that are a max of 12' deep that have shrubs / bushes along the edges where the depth rises to 6'. We vertically jig these for bass. Some of the shrubs are submerged thus we cannot see them. It would be nice to which ones have fish & which do not. I think that side imaging would be perfect. What do you think? Any suggestions? Thanks FFI Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 22, 2012 Super User Posted December 22, 2012 I like that technology and use it 100% of the time on the water and add a 2D or DI view for some occasions. I have three of those Humminbird units. It's the best technology you can have for shallow water due to the coverage. With the Humminbird Side Imaging, as long as the transducer is not buried in the lake bottom, you will see the bottom and all above it to the water's surface. I use it at both ends of the boat. It will change the way you fish. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted December 22, 2012 Super User Posted December 22, 2012 Example of shallow water coverage, Note the water depth and the range setting at the top on both sides. The dark band on the right side is a creek channel I was searching with my bow unit and trolling motor mounted transducer. I found bass and caught bass at this location. Quote

I don't really need a new unit but after fishing out of my buddies boat with dual SI units the possibilities of what I could find and learn from having one is very tempting. Quote

BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 23, 2012 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 23, 2012 I am just scratching the surface of using my 11198 effectively and could not live without it. I can't wait to get good at using it. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 I just recently fished for a week out of a friend's boat, and he has 2 Lowrance HDS10's, and whoever said it will change the way you fish was right. It was AWESOME!!! Ps- Okay, the friend was Big O, and he really uses those things effectively for finding the structure on the structure. I just hope once I buy his boat in the spring, I can learn to use half the stuff those units do! Quote
