Fishohio Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Hey guys I'm lookin to get a New spinning reel after the holidays. I have a Daiwa Feugo 2000 which I LOVE!! It doesn't have to be a Daiwa as most of my other spinners are Abu's.I don't really care for the Big T handles but I do want a 2500 for my MH F tube rod. Lookin to spend between 100 and 150$ Couple I've been lookin at are Saros(which I'm not sure about the Bail wire being so thin) The FJ stradic, and the Daiwa Lexa, Revo S(which like the Stradic is white uuhhh) If any one has any suggestions or have fished these reels, please HELP!! Thanks Quote
elkriverangler Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I have a Stradic FJ 1000 that I use for River Smallmouth Fishing. It is the finest Spinning Reel I have ever used. Smooth as Silk and a lot of nice features for the price. You should be able to pick one up on Ebay for a little less than $150 I wasn't crazy about the White color at first but it has grown on me. I have a couple of Stradic FI's too and they are nice Reels but the FJ is a cut above. Quote
upnorthbassin Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Pflueger supreme xt. The stradic fj would be the next one in line for me. I'd be happy with any of them but I am sold on those. There's stuff I don't care for on any reel....nothing is perfect. Stick a Supreme XT or Stradic FJ under the tree at Christmas and I'm a happy guy. The stradic is heavier and has a much smaller diameter bail wire if that matters to you. I don't think that matters much in the end though....especially if you manually flip the bail which is a better method anyways. Can't go wrong with either. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 22, 2012 Super User Posted December 22, 2012 Stradic FJ or for a bit more the CI4. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 22, 2012 Super User Posted December 22, 2012 I don't think the thinness of the bail wire is an issue. Some very good reels have been mentioned, I personally don't give specific brand recommendations, not that I don't have my own favorites. Just about any newer spinning reel from $60-$200 is more than adequate, drags are good on most and they all seem to be pretty smooth. I would be looking to buy a reel that felt good on my rod, balance may be more important than the actual weight. I would not buy blind on line unless I absolutely knew that the reel was right for my rod. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 22, 2012 Super User Posted December 22, 2012 Agree with SirSnookalot that bail wire isn't an issue. I can speak for the Stradic FI, darn fine reel. FJ is a nice reel but only held them in-store. Don't like T handles, either, which is why I bought 2 1000 FI models. I believe the 2500 FJ is paddle as well. I would say if you're looking for a possible crossover between salt and fresh you might wanna look into another Daiwa or a Shimano. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 23, 2012 Super User Posted December 23, 2012 As far as dual use fresh and salt, Shimano's web site no longer lists the newer sahara, saros and symetre as approved for saltwater. Considering there is no salt water in Ohio, I would't let the non salt approval sway my decision. Quote
Fishohio Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Thanks Guys I also found a Daiwa Ballistic on Ebay for under 150$ anyone ever fish this reel. I'm thinkin the FJ might be the one. I'm not a big Pflueger fan so probably stay away from them.No offense to anyone just personal preference. Quote
fishking247 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 the stradic is tough to beat if you have the cash. another reel i am very impressed with is the shimano symetre. i actually use them more then stradic's Quote
Fishohio Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Anyone fished the Ballistic yet? Found one 2.00$ difference in price from the FJ. I over research alot but when spending 150$ for a reel, I just want it to last a looonnnggg time with good maintanence and cleaning. Quote
