GoneFishi'n Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I was wondering which colors I should get of each. I was thinking for the Cracker G2, I would get the Ghost Bluegill color. For the S-Wavers I would get Baby Bass, and Bluegill. Then for the BBZ, I would get the Blue Herring floater. The water I would be fishing is stained, with a good amount of docks, and some brush. Also there are rock walls that I would be casting down to. Then the other lake is really weedy with pathways to throw your'e bait. There are also some stumps and about 5-6 downed trees. If you guys could help me decide on the colors that would be great, the main reason I picked those colors is because I saw other people fishing with them and they were catching bass. Also, should I just go with 40 pound braid since I would be fishing both lakes? Since all of them float, I don't see the problem in going that high. Thanks! Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I use the basic bluegill color (non ghost) in the G2 shellcracker and it works great. The bluegill down here in Louisiana are super dark, and the water here is almost always fairly stained. It's a hoot to throw and fish. I have been wanting to try out the ghost color myself but can't see spending the money for another when what I have works great! I throw mine on 65 lb braid and it works great. Gets a solid hookset and you can pull that twenty dollar bait out of anything. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 20, 2012 Super User Posted December 20, 2012 I use the Ghost Gill G2 up here and it's actually a pretty dark color, I've caught some beauties on it. The colors for the S-Waver are great choices. I like the sexy shad color (whatever they call it) or the Carp Color for the floating BBZ's. I think the herring my be a bit flashy for a bait that is: (A) fished slowly on the top ie subtle, or ( burned in, the water this thing moves is more than enough of an attractor, the flash may be too much. ALL great baits. Quote

GoneFishi'n Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Ghost Bluegill Would you reccomend exchanging the hooks that come with it for bigger ones? Or are they good hooks? Talking about the G2. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 20, 2012 Super User Posted December 20, 2012 The hooks are good. I believe they are VMC inlines. Quote

GoneFishi'n Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 The hooks are good. I believe they are VMC inlines. So how do you fish it, just reel it in slow. Maybe add a couple twitches? I know it depends on what the fish want, but would I be able to pull it through cover/weeds easily? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 20, 2012 Super User Posted December 20, 2012 I generally use it as a search bait, on a steady, slow retrieve. That generally gives me the most bites, or follows. I don't do the slow, twitch thing with it. To me it's a big super shallow crankbait, or waker. Bigger baits on the other hand, The twitch is key. Quote

That's what I would be doing with the S-Wavers, since they go basically right under the surface. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 20, 2012 Super User Posted December 20, 2012 That's what I would be doing with the S-Wavers, since they go basically right under the surface. The S-Waver is more of a glide lure like a very slow motion jerk bait retrieve and don't over fish it. The baby bass color is more chartreuse/lime green and is a good color choice for this lure. The Lunker Plunker is another excellent surface fast retreive wake bait you want to consider. Tom Quote

I use trout baits in ponds that are nothing more than glorified bogs up here and there have never been trout in them. They got bit just fine, if you go trout and gill or baby bass you at least have two color schemes. Quote
