hatrix Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I am looking to buy a new flipping/swimbait/A-rig rod. I would like to stay around the $175 range and the pinnacle line seems to stand out to me. I'm really looking at the 7'11" and the reccomended weights fit perfect with what I want it for being rated at 1/2-3 oz. I have looked at like every rod on TW and they either have to heavy of a minimum or to low of a maximum weight. Has anyone used any of these rods specifically the flipping ones? I don't have a place around me where I can go actually handle one so I am trying to get some feedback on this rod. If any one has any other suggestions on rods besides this one please let me know. Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 18, 2012 Super User Posted December 18, 2012 I would stick to well known and trusted brands. Just remember that price doesnt mean better. From what I have been hearing lately the Bass P Carbinlite rod is amazing for the $. Also, Shimanos Compre is pretty sweet, I love mine. Spending more than $150 for a rod is rediculous to me. Even more than $125 is just a little much. I feel there are plenty of superior quality rods in the $100 range. Save the extra money and buy a little better of a reel than you may have purchased, especially for what your looking for. Take the extra $75, and put it into a Hawg Handle to gibe you some extra leverage on the fish. They look sexy on a Chronarch E. Quote
hatrix Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 I really like Shimano rods. I have a crucial and a convergence and they both have been really good to me. I am a big fan of the up locking reel seat and no threads. Shimano just doesn't make a rod that can handle the baits I want to use or I would gladly add another to my collection. The reviews on TW seem pretty good for the pinnacle rods and the price is fair. As for a reel I don't spend tons on those either. You can get great quality at a cheap price with lews. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 18, 2012 Super User Posted December 18, 2012 You will always get a recommendation for Shimano...whether for a rod or a reel...on this site. However, there have also been at least 3 reviews of the Pinnacle rods on this site. Two were by J Franco and Roadwarrior. Both were very enthusiastic about the rods. Enough so that it is one of 3 that I will eventually be getting. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 18, 2012 Super User Posted December 18, 2012 This link has all the info you need, including the reviews mentioned above and info about the specific rod you mentioned. It was designed for the a-rig, but will also work for the other applications you speak of! Jeff Quote

C'mon LMG, $150.00 for a rod is ridiculous, but $75.00 for a handle isn't? Remember, this your buddy asking......lol Hootie Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 18, 2012 Super User Posted December 18, 2012 Actually, I don't think either is ridiculous, if that's what you want. I have a buddy who just spent $150.00 on a bowling ball. I personally, wouldn't give you a quarter for a bowling ball. But then, I am not interested in bowling. I guess it's like this, if you like it, it's not ridiculous, if you don't like it, then it is ridiculous.... Just my thoughts. Hootie Quote

Trust me they do make using a Shimano 50E series reel a whole lot nicer. I just think that spending more than $100 or so on a rod, you sometimes dont get anything much better. Still love ya though Quote

Noooooo, get away from me LMG.........lol Hootie Quote

Hey, dont blame the drudrug dealer for your addiction, he didnt make you buy it, lol. Quote
BassmanDan Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I bought a 7ft H Perfecta early last year and it has become my favorite rod for jigs and plastics. I would recommend the Perfecta line to anyone looking for a sensitive, very light and strong rod. I plan on purchasing more in the future. Quote
hatrix Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Well I think I might pick up this rod. It seems like such a universal workhorse and is capable of many different techniques. On a side note I have also been eyeballing the iRODS. They seem pretty nice also and are very reasonably priced. There is a few in the line up I like. The rip rap special the punch rod and either the jr. Swimbait or the A-rig special. Quote
