Shad_Master Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Just read on another site that FoodSource lures have been banned by FLW. Apparently they are not banned by BASS because of a difference in the wording. But there is some speculation that GULP! may be up for scrutiny although the product is considerably different. I have never used any of these, but have thought about trying 'em - this could be the best advertisement that FoodSource could hope for. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 13, 2007 Super User Posted March 13, 2007 Not sure about the foodsource lures but Gulp catches everything except bass for me? I have caught more water snakes on Gulp than bass Allen Quote
Cajun1977 Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 i tried foodsource lures this ice season they seemed to work really good for me....let the flw ban them...thats more for me ;D Quote
flyphisher # Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Dont know about that. No one won a tournament using it last year. But I do know for a fact that GA DNR considers powerbait and anything similar the same as live bait. At least when in comes to artificial lure only water. Somthing to think about. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted March 14, 2007 Super User Posted March 14, 2007 I know that big catfish really like the GULP! 7" turtleback worms.... Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted March 14, 2007 Super User Posted March 14, 2007 Every once in awhile, I would like fresh catfish, so I will chunk a gulp on Fork. Never fails to put a nice 3-4 channel in the boat. Matt. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Sounds like good advertising for FoodSource Lures and Gulp to me... I haven't used FoodSource, but I did about $35 on Gulp. All I got was a bluegill feeding frenzy when I cast it in. Tons of tiny bites, not one bass. Quote
GobbleDog Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I'm sure we've all seen those advertisements of lures claiming they've been banned in tournaments. Up until now, I never believed any of them. I wonder what exactly is in those bates that would upset FLW? Too much natural foods or something...(obviously you can't use a dead fish in a tournament - processed or not) :-? Quote
Shad_Master Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 Well, here we go again on the topic of GULP! -- I swear by it and have caught more Bass in club tournaments than with any other lure. There is the problem, if you consider it a problem when just fishing, of catching everything from Cats to Crappie on 'em. But they are great in my book. I have never tried the FoodSource lures, but as I understand it they are made from "natural ingredients" whatever that is and that fish can actually live on these things in a confined area like a tank. Will be interested to see what the marketing for these is like in the future. Quote
jonnylee82 Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 FoodSource has been banned by the FLW because it's 100% natural food. They consider it like bait. It's not an advertising claim. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Not sure about the foodsource lures but Gulp catches everything except bass for me? I have caught more water snakes on Gulp than bass Allen I killed 'em last year on Gulp 6" nightcrawlers in Junebug. It was actually one of the best bass seasons I've had in recent memory. They just worked for me for whatever reason. T-rigged weightless, by the way Quote
GobbleDog Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I've never used a "Gulp Nightcrawler". I just looked it up and it kinda looks like a Zoom Trick Worm. Quote
Shad_Master Posted March 14, 2007 Author Posted March 14, 2007 johnnylee82, I'm not saying it's a marketing "trick", I just think they should take advantage of it. I know I am more tempted to try 'em although I was interested to begin with. Quote
mudcatwilly Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Ironically, I caught my two PB on the Gulp Turtleback worm, but those were the only two bass I caught on them , so I use them only sparingly. Quote
Isaiah Edwards Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 this sounds like berkley power bait Fish bite and hold on. i'm on foodsource.com wonder if this will come to dicks or basspro Quote
Evan Pease Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Ive drop shotted the tails of Gulp crawlers and caught some nice trout and bluegill. Bass, not so good. Ive fished several styles rigged about every way and have caught 2 bass. That was on a day that I caught about 20 keepers so it got schooled 1:9 or something. Quote
jonnylee82 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Sorry, Shad Master, I misunderstood what you were saying. Yeah, it might help sell more lures. I've never tried it. I have used gulp! a whole lot. I whack 'em on the 4" june bug turtle back worm. I also used the sinking minnows, minnow grubs, night crawlers... they're totally confidence lures for me. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I think it is genius marketing on the part of the company. Whether or not they "worked" to get banned I do not know. Whatever the case may be, they are going to sell a heck of a lot more lures because of it. I would almost be willing to place a good chunk of loot on the line to say that if some huge pro like Rick Clunn or KVD won an FLW event using one of these lures, they would not move nearly the product, as is going to happen because of them being banned from the whole tournament trail. jomatty Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 ive always wondered about pork trailors. why exactly is that not considered live bait? i know it would be crazy for some tour to try to ban the beloved pig in the pig n jig but dont really understand the theoretical difference. Quote
