I have a buddy that throws chatter baits ( bladed jigs) in that situation. Strike king makes a heavier spinnerbait that works pretty well it has an oversized head on it.

Never used them, normally use boo yah jigs or cheap clearance jigs. I like how they have combination hair/silicone skirts on some of the models. Any model and color suggestions?

I know others might disagree with my pov, but I'm a believer that every lure basically works unless it's physically broken.

From Tackle Warehouse and their jigs, I looked for the cheapest jigs they offer. The Strike King Bitsy Flip jigs only cost $1.89 each and I bought two from them.

I caught 3 keeper LMB the first time I used them. Highly recommended.

+1 on the bitsy bugs. They are awesome when the bass are suspending a few feet off the bottom, and for smallmouth as well. I put either a rage chunk of yamamoto baby craw on my bitsy bugs. Drag, hop, or twitch, depending on what the fish want that day.

x2. I would tell you to check out the NSCB spinnerbaits too, but I don't think TW carries them.

I would take that Gift Card and buy yourself as many Berkley Havoc Pit Boss's, Craw Fatty's and Rocket Craws as you can get. These soft plastics will catch Bass under ANY condition. Also get yourself some 3/16 and 1/4 oz. Tungsten weights; some 3/0 and 4/0 Gammy EWG Superline Hooks and sinker stops. That is all you need in your tacklebox : )

all the above suggestions are good..

my suggestion would be to wait until they have their next sale and then load up. some items are on sale now....but...they will have a 15% or 20% sale like they did for black friday. you may have to wait a little while. but may as well get the most bang for your buck.

i just bought a $100 gift card for $90 for myself...after i had spent a bunch on their black friday sale... now i have a discounted gift card to use for the next big sale... (like i really need MORE stuff)

if you buy now...tell us what you decided on..

I'd be thinking about a frog, like the Spro Bronzeye (or any similar frog), weedless and you can walk the dog with it. Zoom Horny toads are a great topwater bait for pads also.

Also I tend NOT to buy lures many are saying good and buy something else, unless I see myself why particular lure is better than the other.

For spinnerbaits I recommend Pepper Custom Baits at TW (best prices are at TW). There are tangible reasons for my suggestion. I've gone through about a dozen different brands over the years. There were many that had lower grade hooks and it resulted in poor hookup ratios, or blades didn't consistently run true, or wire that quickly became damaged by aggressive small mouth strikes. There are plenty of SBs that will draw strikes when a SB bite is on. But not many last or have ideal hookup ratios.

I had read a solid review on many SBs hat led me to Pepper Customs. Then I caught well over 100 smallie and LM on one single SB as well as two pike, at about 28" and 38" during a fishing vacation last year. That hook point remained ultra sharp until the day I lost it - that's what sold me. I now have a binder full of Pepper Customs. Major advantages for me: Gamakatsu Hook is key, durable steel wire, incredible value at $4.50 - $5.50, chip resistant coated paint and I believe the blades are strategically sized and aligned for better rotation at slower speeds.

Regardless, I recommend checking the Tackle Tour 2010 Spinnerbait Shootout. I've linked the the final page with results, but IMO it's worth reading the entire article: http://tackletour.co...rshootout6.html . I'm not done experimenting myself; I'll be trying Komanchi, Gann's and more Revenge next year.
