Super User retiredbosn Posted December 11, 2012 Super User Posted December 11, 2012 Is the 600yds ultra soft hybrid basically the same as 250yd of hybrid, just curiuos of the yds difference Ultra soft is for spinning tackle and is about a pound weaker than regular. Example 12lb regular 19+ breaking strength US 18 roughly. TW and Big Fish Sports both carry the 600 yd spool of the regular. The difference between a 250 & 600yd spool is 350 yards lol couldn't resist Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted December 11, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 11, 2012 I have explained myself on other threads. Line is horrendous. Also not a fan of Sufix but that's from one spool that was used on a pre owned reel I tried. May try a fresh spool one day. possibly user error? Any line is going to be tough if you are not skilled with baitcasters. Quote
dam0007 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Had Yozuri on Stadric 2500, Symetre 2500 and Sonora 2500 at same time at beginning of the year. Line memory was terrible, casting distance on all 3 setups was no more than 25ft, couldn't hold a knot, and 6# test was more like 0.0000001# strength, also line was as stiff as 25# fluoro I use for my saltwater leaders. Only reason I got it was because the rave reviews. Terrible experience I stripped the reels down after that first trip. The Sufix yea that's on the Chronarch, I think its 'Siege' very very very brittle the slightest nick or abrupt pressure line would snap. Pretty sure it was 12#. But like I said 1 day I'll try a fresh spool of that. As far as the Yozuri, they make great lures but the line is not my cup of tea. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 11, 2012 Super User Posted December 11, 2012 I don't have an overall preference, unless you get into application. I use 15, 20, 50, 65, and 80# Power Pro. 8, 10, 12, and 20# CXX. 4, 6, 8# Invisx. 10 and 12# Berkley 100%. 4# Silverthread. 8# Suffix Siege. 20# 832. And dam0007, you got a bad batch. While it's not my line of choice, I've used Yo-zuri in both vanilla and ultra soft, and it performs as well as any other line. Suffix Siege brittle? That's completely the opposite. I use it in 8# size in sub freezing temps for species that are much larger than typical bass. To each his own, but there have been just a few lines that I've tried that haven't been at least serviceable to use. Fluoroclear is a line that comes to mind as one that I didn't so well with. Berkley 100% in 6 and 8# didn't do well at all on spinning gear, but I love the bigger sizes on casting gear. Line choice is a very personal one, and takes some time and experience on the water to develop a preference. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 11, 2012 Super User Posted December 11, 2012 I like experimenting with different lines. With a few exceptions, it is fun and relatively inexpensive. These are the lines I have used over the past two years: Seaguar InvizX and AbrazX, Tatsu, Izorline, P-Line CXX, Sunline Super Natural and Sniper, Suffix 832 and Fireline Braid. As a result I am not going to use anymore fluorocarbon except for leader. I'm leaving the P-Line CXX on my striper rig only. Sunline Super Natural will stay on a dedicated jerkbait rod and Suffix 832 on my Alabama Rig. For everything else, Yo-Zuri Hybrid #4 or #6 on spinning tackle; #12 on baitcasting gear. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 11, 2012 Super User Posted December 11, 2012 A vote for Yo-Zuri. Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 for me, its hard to beat the Tatsu. I had 10# on a spinning outfit this summer , and over the winter I will be putting it on everything. Quote
jerzeeD Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 P-line CX and Flouroclear on all my setups! Quote
skeletor6 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 12lb Seaguar Tatsu on my casting gear and 6-8lb Seaguar Tatsu on my spinning gear. I have not found a more pleasant line to fish with in any conditions. Seaguar sees through the entire manufacturing process of their lines unlike many other companies. If I was on a budget I would probably use yozuri and feel its a good line for spinning gear especially, since you can get 4lb line with 8lb breaking strength. Its hard to knock the stuff for the price it is sold at. I have 400 yards left at least and I spent $12. Roadwarrior got me into that line too! Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 12, 2012 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2012 PP braid and Seagar for all floro applications... I asked the fat guy with the red jacket for some Yozuri tho. Mike Quote
bassr95 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I haven't had a great experience with YZ hybrid either. I put 12 lb. on my jig rod and broke off twice the first (and last) day I used it. I got the spool off fleabay, maybe it was old or somthing? Anyway, 14lb Stren original mono has never let me down like YZ did. I hate retying, and if a line won't hold up to 5 or 10 fish without fraying, I don't like it. So maybe you just can't treat YZ that way, who knows. End Rant. Quote
dam0007 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I also just got AbrazX and InvisX can't wait to try em out. Quote

piscicidal Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 For me: Jigs/worm/pitch: flouro (sunline shooter: 16lb) Flip/punch: braid (power pro: 65lb) Frogs/paddletails (daiwa samarai: 50lb) Spinnerbaits/salt water (power pro: 20lb) Topwaters/jerkbaits/crankbaits (mono, mc coy mean green 12lb) Finesse/senkos/flukes/shakey (flouro: invisx 10lb) Each year (our season "starts" in October) I try a new flouro line. This year Im trying the sunline shooter. Like it so far...a little less stretchy than invisx and slightly less manageable. My partner Robert turned me onto Mc Coy Mean Green. This line is awesome. This is THE most manageable line there is. It lays down on the spool so nice and you can bomb long casts with it. And its cheap too. I would highly recommend it for people learning the baitcaster. Im probably a little different with the spinnerbait line...my spinnerbait fishing usually involves some type of grass. I like using the thin braid to rip the blades thru grass with minimal compliance. I use a softer (M action) rod for this to keep fish buttoned up. I like power pro, especially for flipping. That stuff saws through vegetation and it holds its color relatively well. Its inexpensive also. The daiwa samarai is good for moving baits...casts very well. Good for bombing moving baits out there. bassr95 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Dont buy line off the bay, or used/leftover for that matter. Thats prob what happened to you. Yeah, I kind of suspected that might be the problem. I might have to give it another try next season. Quote
tholmes Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I use Trilene Big Game on my baitcasters and Trilene XL on my spinning gear. Although, earlier this year I tried the Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra-Soft (4#) on my ultra-light for my annual trout fishing trip to Colorado and it performed superbly. I think I've found a new spinning line! Tom Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I chose suffix siege but I actually use suffix elite. With out a doubt my favorite mono, but with all the love yo-zuri hybrid gets I think I'm gonna give it a try this coming season. Quote
plumworm Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 They quit making my favorite line, Berkley "Ironsilk" . XT and Cxx on baitcasters and Power Pro with floro leaders on spinning. Tried floro on baitcasters, just couldn't get used to it.Guess I'm just too old to change. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 13, 2012 Super User Posted December 13, 2012 I'm pretty much a PP user and have tried a number of different braids, I seem to always come back to PP. I tried a different one a few days ago on a reel that I get excessive wind knots with, that being Fins Windtamer. 2 days of use in winds up to and exceeding 18 knots using a light fluke not a single wind knot, line was quiet and knots held perfectly. Just a review after limited use and not a recommendation, I really liked it, going to spool up another reel with it. Quote
thehooligan Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 After all the different braids and lines ive used ive finally got it down to a setup that works great for me. I only use spinning reels so my lines are... All my rods have 10lb power pro with 6/8/10/12 lb pline flouroclear leaders in green mist. Love that line, its a perfect match for the water i fish. Quote
fishking247 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 i use berkley trilene XL for most of my fishing. if i'm fishing nasty stuff i use 15-30lb power pro Quote
Bama n Bass Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Switched most of my rods to Yo-zuri. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 14, 2012 Super User Posted December 14, 2012 Btw Yozuri's line is garbage All line brands are the best, and all line brands are garbage. How do I know this? From talking to hundreds of my customers at BPS. Hootie Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 14, 2012 Super User Posted December 14, 2012 You can take any line on our line wall at BPS, one customer will swear by it, the next one will swear at it. Go figure. Hootie 1 Quote
