jchez444 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 How risky is purchasing a reconditioned reel Quote
Arv Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I've never bought one, but I've also never heard of anyone have anything go wrong with a reconditioned reel either. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 9, 2012 Super User Posted December 9, 2012 Depends on who reconditioned it. Factory reconditions are probably a safe bet if the price is right. A quality service shop like DVT would be good as well. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 9, 2012 Super User Posted December 9, 2012 If factory reconditioned - probably OK. I've purchased several, including a Revo S that I got from FFO for $51 shipped... I couldn't find even any rash on the Revo - it looked and fished as new. Might be other folks out there that are more experienced recon reel purchasers than myself - maybe they'll chime in .... Quote
jchez444 Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 yea im hoping. i was looking at ffo for the purchase Quote
The Next KVD Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Its not often that I actually buy new reels mainly because I've learned how to clean and service my reels, soo if I buy something used and it has a few parts needing repair I'll jump on it for the right price. Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I have bought 5 or 6 reconditioned on eBay and have had no issues..... and with people like dvt around I have no worries about buying reconditioned Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 10, 2012 Super User Posted December 10, 2012 I have 2 recons, both from Pure Fishing, I believe Factory Outlet is Pure fishing too. Both have been in my service for several years, came to me looking and performing as a new reel, and are still that way today. I personal would only purchase one from the factory rep, not a 3 rd party. As far as repairs go, if it's minor there are qualified people in my area, if something more major or part is required it goes back to the factory, unless it's cost prohibitive and shipping costs, then I'm buying a new reel.
