Jake P Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I have found a few great ponds and been fishing them heavily lately with great success. I started with larger lures like 1/2 jigs and 7-10" worms. I was consistently getting bigger bites with no problem. Since the temps are cooling my luck is changing of course. I have fished slower and changed up my technique with little to no success. I picked up some Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbaits in 3/16 and 1/8 oz and have been doing fair with them. I have also switched to smaller and lighter weighted plastics. Rage craws to baby craws, rage anacondas to thumpers. Weightless senkos and trick worms have worked OK. What do yall throw in ponds when larger profile baits arent working? Do any of yall have success with the Booyah Pond Magic SB's or any other similiar moving lures? Thanks in advance fellas! Quote
Knightiac Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Those exact spinners are a favorite of mine in ponds here in Orlando. The colder it is here, the bulkier I want my worms to be. Every once in a while I rig a craw on a football head jig, almost shakeyhead style. Personal favorite is a chigger craw but I want to give paca craws a shot. Maybe try throwing some flukes as well - absolutely tore up the pond behind my house tonight throwing a plain white fluke. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 9, 2012 Super User Posted December 9, 2012 Lipless crankbaits. Flat sidded crankbaits. Jigs and pigs. Shaky Head Drop Shot You can either go for the big baits or drop down in size to the smaller presentations. The fish will tell you what they want each day. 1 Quote
Bass Junkie Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Sammy 85's, Pointer 78's, Spro Bronzeye Jr.'s, Live Pointer 95MR's, and 1/4oz. football jigs work well, but don't be afraid to throw bigger lures. I downsize only on the smallest of ponds. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Rattle traps have never failed me when it cools and they start to shut down. Chrome with blue back and orange belly is my favorite. Quote
Arv Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Traps, and every once in a while a spinnerbait. Then a lot of finesse presentations - shakey head, weightless plastics, mojo rig, finesse jigs, wacky rig senkos all work well in the colder temps for me. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 12, 2012 Super User Posted December 12, 2012 (1) Rage Tail Menace on a 1/8 oz jighead (naked) rigged with a verticle tail (2) Rigged on a NorthStar Original Swim Jig (especially Natural Shad/ Blue Glimmer Menace) or Siebert Outdoors Swim Jig (Blue Glimmer) Quote
5fishlimit Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I've tried several of the booyah pond magic spinners, but I'm not a huge fan of them. They produce, but I've had better luck with the square bill cranks, rat-l-traps's, and chatterbaits. Like bassjunkie said you don't need to downsize your lures unless the pond is really small. By small I'm talking that you can throw a rock across to the other side. Maybe try a compact spinner like War Eagle Screaming Eagle. They're a 1/2oz in the size of a 1/4oz. Quote
Primus Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Maybe try a compact spinner like War Eagle Screaming Eagle. They're a 1/2oz in the size of a 1/4oz. I like that spinnerbait as well. Another bait that should work well is the S.O.B. Mini Me which is a heavier bait with a more compact profile. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 13, 2012 Super User Posted December 13, 2012 3/8 or 1/4 jigs, 1/2 ounce rat-l-traps, 1/4 ounce 1-minus, and weightless flukes. Quote
gripnrip Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Try a Zoom 5" magnum worm in pumpkin seed. 3/0 EWG and a 1/4 oz bullet. Dip the fat part of the tail in spike it and hold on. :-) Quote
dumfish Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 The 1/8 or 3/16 oz. Booyah spinner bait , take off the smaller willow leaf blade and swap it out with the next larger size. This is my favorite spinner bait for bank fishing on smaller bodies of water. 1 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 21, 2012 Super User Posted December 21, 2012 I like Strike King Rocket Shad little spinnerbaits That's one of those lures that make it to the bottom of the tackle box and you say: "why not" and let the thing go. The next thing you know it, there's 4 fish in the area that nailed that little bait! Nice post Q-n-S! Quote
backwater4 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 1/8 Stanley wedge spinnerbaits 1/16 - 1/8 jig. Try all black. 1/8 black hair jig Quote
