Ghostshad Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 What is your favorite swim jig brand, color and how do you fish it.Ive not had much luck using them. Thanks Quote
Arv Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 NorthStar Flip and Swim. I've probably had most hook ups on the "Simply Watermelon" color with a paddletail swimbait trailer. Any color is good though. I haven't been out to try the "New Gill" color yet but it looks awesome. As far as retrieves, theres no right or wrong way. Steady retrieve, pumping action, yo yo, rip it off the bottom, hop it on the bottom, retrieve it and kill it, etc, etc, etc. I like the Flip and Swim because it does a good job of fishing like a craw imitator as well. I like a Rage Craw on the jig in these circumstances. I also have a few of the Strike King swim jigs what do a good job as well. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I had some luck with smaller swim jigs. I take any smaller jigs which has eye of the hook at the very front of the jig head, and add some trailer. Some of them are labeled as swim jigs, some are not. Colors for me are mostly shad pattern. The trailers are usually paddle tails. Some of the trailers are tail section of used paddle tail swim baits. I'm not very picky about brands and stuff, but I pay attention to where fish might be and if the set up is right size and weight. I would cast, reel and twitch all the way to the boat. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I throw the NorthStar Original Swim Jig in "new gill" most of the time, but when I am fishing deeper water or thicker vegetation, the NorthStar Flip & Swim is a GREAT choice... I like to throw either a craw or swimbait as a trailer, but experiment with trailers to see what they want! Quote
JCiurej34 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I like NorthStar Swim Jigs and Dirty Jigs Swim Jigs. I like fishing them just over the tops of weeds at a slow speed. I like bluegill colors the most, but I also do well with crayfish and shad colors as well. My favorite trailers are Rage Craws or a Keitech Swing Impact swim bait. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 9, 2012 Super User Posted December 9, 2012 I have two specific suggestions: NorthStar Original Swim Jig, Sexy Shad w/ Rage Tail Menace, Blue Glimmer Siebert Outdoors Grass Jig, Black w/ Rage Tail Single Tail Grub, Blue Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 10, 2012 Super User Posted December 10, 2012 I like the Bass Assault swim jigs, favorite colors are Chartreuse Bream and Bluegill. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Northstar 5/16oz all White with white Kinami 4" single tail grub in Pearl Silver. Been trying the new Rage Tail single tail grub in Blue Glimmer Flake with good success as well. Also like the Sexy Shad color with the same trailers. Quote
pjmags Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Dirty jigs california swim jig with a small swimbait trailer like a roboworm ez shad or a keitech FAT swing impact Quote
Gangley Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Northstar Flip & Swim in Pumpkinseed with a single trail grub trailer. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 13, 2012 Super User Posted December 13, 2012 Around here swimming a jig works better in the warmer months. This time of year I'll have my jig on the bottom working it back slowly. Quote
RyneB Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 white homemade swim jig with a white rage tail menace trailer, or a homemade bluegill pattern with a green pumpkin rage tail menace trailer. Quote
mnbassman23 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Sparse shallow cover I through a Northstar original swim jig in 1/4oz. Moderate to heavy cover, or deeper water, I throw the Northstar flip and swim. New gill and salsa are my top 2 colors, but this will vary by location/forage. Quote
