sbfishySC Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 What do you guys use for squirrel hunting? I'm looking for a good pellet gun within a reasonable price. Quote

preach4bass Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I'm sitting in the woods with my ruger 10/22 right now. Hundreds of bushytails have fallen to her. (I Squirell hunt a lot.) Quote
sbfishySC Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Reason I ask about pellet gun is because it's not for the woods, it's for the yard, in an urban area, so I can't shoot a .22 in the area. Extremely overrun, they've gotten into our attic before, we trap all the time and relocate, but they just keep reappearing. My dad loves to shoot them in the backyard, but he's got a wimpy walmart pellet gun that just makes them laugh when it hits them IF it reaches that far, so I'd like to get him something better. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 7, 2012 Super User Posted December 7, 2012 They won't laugh at the Phantom. That pellet rifle drops them. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 7, 2012 Super User Posted December 7, 2012 I have two pellet rifles that I shoot squirrels in my yard with. (I live in a subdivision.) One is a Gamo Nitro. The other is a RWS 34 .177. Both will take out a Squirrel with ease and I've taken a few rabbits with them also. Don't shoot those light weight Gamo pellets. They are fast but they suck when it comes to accuracy. Just shoot the led ones and you'll be fine. Quote

Capt.Bob Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 .22 cal Benjamin Sheridan Steroid by Mach 1 airguns. I shoot Beeman Kodiak pellets, WWHHHOOOOPP! Quote
(='_'=) Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 i use my Remington Summit in 5.5 to shoot hare and rabbits when using the .22 becomes too easy.... it would kill a tree rat without a problem, and can be had at walmart for about $180 shipped... and its very easy to ****... for $400 you can get a Benjamin Discovery PCP with handpump, just add a good scope and you would have enough power for some long range shooting.... the hand pump may not be suitable for your father though... sbfishySC Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 Thanks. I will definitely check those out. Are there any good pellet guns that are NOT single-shot and break barrel loaders? Personally I'm not a fan of break-barrels but that seems to be the popular choice of the better guns. Right now my dads is a pump that holds several rounds so he doesn't have to reload after every shot, just pump it a few times. Come to think of it, he might be shooting BBs, I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know he's got both BB and pellet. Quote

PCP.... the Hammerli Pneuma ELite 10 has a magazine that holds 10 rounds i believe.... and it can be had for $300 in pyramidair right now... in 4.5 though... or, the Benjamin Discovery, goes for $400 including the hand pump, and, even when it doesnt has a magazine, you just pull the bolt (as in a bolt action gun), insert the pellet, and are ready to shoot... Gamo makes a decent CO2 pistol for around $100 that would work. 8 round clip, semi-auto. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 I recommend an official Red Ryder Carbine Action two-hundred shot range model air rifle. But make sure it has the compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. Quote

sbfishySC Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Ended up going with a Gamo Hornet. Good price at our local academy store, so I picked it up. So far it's at least 3 kills in 3 shots, that I know of (my dad may have gotten more since). Stone dead. I'm impressed. Quote
