Super User retiredbosn Posted December 7, 2012 Super User Posted December 7, 2012 The bride has asked for an e-reader. Which is better kindle or nook. Either will be the new hd or fire. Thanks Quote
Clint C. Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 My brothers fiancée absolutely loves her nook. My aunt has a kindle and it's very smooth and easy. I imagine the kindle would stay updated more just because it's an Amazon product though. I think if she is using it more just for reading. The nook. Games and more? The kindle. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 For me, if your READING with it then the digital ink or whatever the kindle uses is the best thing available. for games and all the kindle fire is pretty nice, tho android tablets, which i changed the fire into, is a much nicer interface NGaHB Quote
tyrius. Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 If she wants an e-reader then get the Kindle Paperwhite. If she wants a tablet then you can get the Fire, but from a tablet standpoint it's hard not to get the iPad. Between Amazon and Barnes and Noble, I would get the Amazon product just because Amazon is in a lot better shape than Barnes and Noble. Quote
jhoffman Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The fire has better functionality and if you ever take it somewhere you need to get on a network that uses a proxy server you will need to be able to set that. The fire will allow it. Quote
jeremyt Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The only issue I see with the kindle fire hd is that flash player is no longer supported. My father in law just bought one for my mother in law and they returned it due to that. Quote
Stasher1 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 If you're looking for an e-reader - Kindle, hands down. Amazon is a solid company with excellent customer service, the Kindle Storefront is easy to use, and most libraries offer Kindle versions of books for download. If you're looking for an all-around, do everything, 7" tablet - Nexus 7. The display is so much sharper than the Ipad mini, it's easier to load games/music since your computer sees it as an external drive (drag and drop, no screwing with around Itunes), and it starts/loads quicker than the Ipad. It's Android=based, so apps and games are easy to find, it's also a good bit cheaper than the Ipad mini. We have one of each here, and the Nexus seems to be the one that's constantly in use. Quote
Gene Eby Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I have had a Kindle for 2 years and use it as a reader, absolutly love it, My daughter has a "Fire" and she likes it so much she wants to get one for me for Xmas, I have used it and really like it, Ialso have the latest generation IPad and think I like the Fire better. Like the operating system and reading I love it, just my 2 cents. Also, Amazon has the best customer service I have seen. Quote
