bknap Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Im looking to get into making my own jig but where do you guys get your mold at ? and which molds are your favorite for flippin jigs? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 6, 2012 Super User Posted December 6, 2012 Do It is where I'd look for molds. But you are going to need a lot more than molds. You'll need: a source of lead a way to melt it a source for hooks (Shorty's Hook Sales if you have a tax ID) skirt material (fishing skirts . com) a good pair of leather gloves and eye protection A guestimate is between $200-300 for startup depending on which and how many molds and skirts you purchase. cadman Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Best prices for molds is Zeiner's in Kansas City. Call them up and speak to Jim Zeiner, he has beaten everybody's price on the web that I know of. Best flippin jig for me is the Snootie jig with an Owner deep throat hook. Never lost a fish on that hook or jig. Quote
RODNEY Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 My first mold, hooks(100 of each size), skirts, and Lee Pro Pot came to about 300$ from Jann's Netcraft. I didn't know about some of the other places that I know about now. I have close to a thousand lbs of lead I've gotten for free, too bad that's over. Jig Man and Cadman along with others are great sources of knowledge. Rodney Quote
Downeaster2010 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 First of all Do-it makes most of the molds you would use today. Many different companies sell their molds and components that make up your jig. I happen to think Barlows Tackle sells their molds and components for a decent price. If you buy directly from Do-it the molds are about $15 more so that is a last choice. Building jigs is easy, if you screw up a couple of jigs just throw them back in the melting pot and redo them. Powder painting is good, but has a little learning curve to it. Watch some of the video's on Do-it molds site, and you can learn a lot. Quote

I try to stop by every time I'm in Wichita. It usually ends up costing me some money. Tom Quote
