Topwater Pete Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I am cosidering a purchase of this rod and would really appreciate any thoughts, opinions or feedback from anyone on it. I will pair it with a Stradic CI4 and will be using it for smallmouth in mostly clear rocky midlake humps, shoals and shorelines throwing 3" grubs, and flukes on 1/4-3/8 jig heads. Do you think this rod is a good choice for this. Pete Quote
Crappiebasser Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 IMO it's too light to get a good hook set. That's a nice dropshot rod but is too flimsy to handle flukes and grubs. I would go for the LTB 68MXF. Quote
Clint C. Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Just a heads up... the LTB's seem to be more tip heavy this year than the past models. Quote
Topwater Pete Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Clint, that being said would that give me a little better hook set than the previous years LTB ML. Quote
Clint C. Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Eh, not in my opinion. I think for the weights and applications you're using you may want to check out the TBS71MF. You'll get a more solid hookset while still getting the finesse That's just personal opinion though. If you really want the XF action go check out the TBS610MXF. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 7, 2012 Global Moderator Posted December 7, 2012 I have the 6' 10" ML/XF LTB and it is a great rod for swimming grubs and even light shakyheads. It throws #5 shad raps and small jerkbaits very well also. It is not a flimsy rod at all IMO. Like most St.Croix rods their ML is more on par with most companies medium. I throw grubs and wacky rigs with mine mainly and it handles nice smallmouth without any problems. Quote
Topwater Pete Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Clint and Bluebasser, Thats the exact info Im looking for. Since its Christmass time ive got a plan. I will get the 610 mxL from the wife, I will buy the 7'1''MF, and I can get a free rage on the promotion. God I love this country! Thanks for the help. Pete Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Sounds like a heck of a plan to me! Quote
