Super User Bankbeater Posted December 6, 2012 Super User Posted December 6, 2012 I am looking for a new UL rod maybe something with ML action around 7'. Does anyone have any suggestions? Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Are you looking for custom or off the rack? A decent rod for the money but can be considered a little tip-heavy is the TFO Signature Series rods (designed by Gary Loomis) that retail for $99 (BPS). I had the saltwater version and used it for speckled trout and schoolie stripers and liked it. I know several smallmouth kayak guides in PA and MD that use them religiously and for all of their clients. Another good one is the new Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth Series of rods (casting or spinning) - http://www.fenwickfishing.com/cat.php?k=472009&sk=472009 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 6, 2012 Super User Posted December 6, 2012 Saint Croix AVS70ULF. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 6, 2012 Super User Posted December 6, 2012 How light of a lure do you plan on casting? I like my Smallmouth casting rods, but went with Fenwick's 7' 2" Light Fast River Runner (1/32 to 5/16 oz. 4 to 8 lb) for my panfishing rod. Quote

tbone1993 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I am looking for a new UL rod maybe something with ML action around 7'. Does anyone have any suggestions? Saint Croix AVS70ULF. x2 Great Rod. It is important that you pay for a rod with a lifetime warranty with UL rods. Had a friend that bought his UL avid from work and snapped it in a week tying on a lure. Don't tie on and hold the tip at the same time it only ends badly. St. Croix took the rod in and replaced it for him right away, great customer service. Quote
Stasher1 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 To me, the "best" UL rod depends what kind of lures you're planning on using and what kind of fish you're after. For most panfish, sensitivity isn't an issue, so I usually opt for a L or UL rod (fiberglass, if I can find it) with moderate/parabolic action. The whippy-ness of the rod helps me make longer casts with super light baits, and the parabolic action makes even the tiniest fish feel like I've hooked into Shamu. Quote
