sunkboat on big o Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Fished the Christian tourny sat up north with buddy who lives in lake port, went to J&S saw a ton of beds, caught a male on bed, and three others pissin but no big girls. Missed one guess about 6 or so and caught a 3 full of eggs, but only had about 9 pounds. 60 boat field and think a little over 18 won with 10.8 getting a check. Didnt go to weigh in and stayed out till dark, fishing with a very accomplished lake O guide and fisherman, caught maybe 15 fish all day. Went to North Shore for about 4 hours sunday morning and flipped every hyacin mat i could in that time without a bite. Anyone heard anything else? Quote
gar-tracker Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Hey man I wish I would have ran into you. We came in 8th, cashed a check. my partner lost one on the first pitch we weren't even ready I didn't have to trolling motor down, he was just kinda of getting his stuff ready and a 5 lber swam off with his bait handcuffed him between the boat and cover jumped a foot away from me and it came off. We had a 5 1/2. Iv seen this dude lose maybe 2 fish in the 20 years we fished together. Would have put us in about 2nd I figured. The winers told me they were flipping mats, I looked in their boat, they weren't flipping no mats, there was a pile of Big EZ's on the floor. 1 Quote

gar-tracker Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Oh yeah Iv known Art for years, him, Sam Griffin and Tony all the Moore Haven boys were at the wiegh in. We went over to JS, Henrey Creek area. Quote
topwaterrob Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I was thinking about fishing the toys tourney this weekend but it'd probably be cheaper if i just send them the $50 and save gas........ I've struggled the last two times out on the lake.... If you guys aint getting them i think i'll save the trip.... Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 want to fish it as well and for a good cause so if im not working will probably go, but not on anything. Jand S looks really good inside just couldnt get a big bite. Quote
salmicropterus Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Everything looks good on the inside (except my livewell at the end of the day) Quote
piscicidal Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 What's the "toys" tournament? Can someone post more info on this? I haven't fished Okeechobee in weeks, if I'm gonna donate, might as well be to a good cause.... Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 basssustersflorida.com run by bass busters outta clewiston. Quote

I can't make it this weekend, maybe next week if there's a tourney. Quote
gar-tracker Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Anyone know what weight won the Toys for Tots? Quote
piscicidal Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I talked to Steve Daniel earlier today...he said ~20lbs won Toys for Tots. Sounds like the fishing still a bit tough on the Big O, although he's been doing real well on his shiner trips.. Quote
gar-tracker Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 20s been the magic number but I have a feeling thats going to change. My partner caught a 20+ pound sack Saturday fun fishing.. Quote
piscicidal Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Yeah, I was talking to my partner Robert (SouthFla) and I think we have an idea what's going on there....and if we ever get a chance to actually fish, we might find out. Robert and I are going to be at Garrard's grand opening up in Okeechobee Saturday. Gonna try and fish a couple hours that morning...Might be on Steve's radio show, early. If any of you guys are in the area, come look us up. Quote
piscicidal Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Correction....28lbs won toys for tots. I thought Steve said 20 but I heard wrong. It was won by Mikeyballzz buddy Mikey Keyso, who doubled down on Carmen Patti's tourney Saturday (winning that also). Second place was 18 and change, so Keyso pretty much lapped the field. Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted December 11, 2012 Author Posted December 11, 2012 Fished it with my 18 year old son and we only had 9lb, had a problem with batterys dying so only fished till 12. Buddy i normally fish with fished with another guide friend and they came in 5th with 16.8lb, said he caught 6.8lber where i was in the am, oh well. They are starting to move in just dnt think they are on the north shore like they normally are this time of year, heard there were atleast 30 boats up there. Buddy that came in 5th said they caught em flipping mats just not on north shore. Where he caught his I didnt see any beds but my guess is that they are starting to stage getting ready. By the time BFL comes around weights will be way up. Quote
salmicropterus Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Piscicidal, I taped a quick segment with Steve and Deb but I don't know if it aired on the Saturday show or the new Sunday show out of Clewiston. Either one, Steve and Deb do a great job and it's worth a listen. Despite the likes of me, they get some pretty heavy-hitter guests on there. I think the Lake will be very strong very soon Quote
piscicidal Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Nice, David. Yeah...he had Brandon McMillian and Randy Tharp in there last week...I was joking with Steve yesterday about him taking down my picture from his website and putting those guys up. LOL. 1 Quote
piscicidal Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I actually got to fish Okeechobee Saturday morning for a couple hours with Robert....my first time on the lake in over a month. We were up around the north end...water very muddy from the rain the night before, but we found a couple spots that had fish. Probably had ~11-12lbs fishing from 8:00-10:00 (we had to leave, go to Garrard's Grand Opening)...not too bad for a couple hours fishing, given the recent reports and the water quality. Anyone get out there this weekend? Quote

Super User South FLA Posted December 18, 2012 Super User Posted December 18, 2012 When we settle into our normal winter pattern and it stops raining like it is the summer/fall, and water drops into the 14ft range then it will be HAWG ON time. If you want some MONSTERS now, bust out the shiners. Quote
