Clash City Rocker Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Its getting cold up here in the Northeast but we're still pretty far away from any ice. I primarily fish from the bank and have not had much luck lately. Everything I can find on winter bass points to fishing deep. Is it a waste of time fishing from the bank this time of year? If not what techniques work best. Quote
WDinarte Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I'm still fishing from the bank and have some catch, but the whole catch is under 2#er's. Some good info here, take a look. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/110035-winter-fishing-in-ponds/ Quote
Clint C. Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I haven't had much luck lately but a buddy at the lake said a black and blue chatterbait has been doing the trick for him. He's moves a lot and just fan casts areas pretty quickly. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted December 4, 2012 Super User Posted December 4, 2012 havnt treid jerk baits but have running black and blue chatter baits and 8 inch tequllia sun rise t-riged worms. black and purple.... still no luck Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 5, 2012 Super User Posted December 5, 2012 You are limited where you can bank fish and that limits how and what lures you can effectively use. You can use a T-rigged worm, but don't limit yourself to 1 size or 1 color, bass are just as finicky during the winter about color ansd size as any other time period. Swimbaits are another lure you can fish from shore and good cold water period choice. Fish points that drop off into deeper water and try to fish the lower 1/3rd of the lake where it should be deeper waters. The dam and adjacent area is usually a good place to start. Tom Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted December 5, 2012 Super User Posted December 5, 2012 yeah thi pond i fish is pretty big with 3 big coves and huge flat and there are 3 big points ill run a rat-l trap parrell to the point but i already know where the most veg i ust did to see if it would be the greenest which it is and there a drop off id say about 10-12 ft.. so now ill slow roll spiner jigs and sometimes ive punch it not with anything heavy just enough to drop my bait into.. also a jig spoon worked great late fall but now with the water temp in the high 30's it really tough.. sorry for any misspelling im dong this on my phone Quote
Loop_Dad Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I fish from bank in winter. Jigs and craw soft plastic work for me. I fish deep and slow. Our lake will never get as cold as your lake but still I found the most of the fish in deep. I use long stiff flipping rod to cast as far as I can and strong enough to set the hook when the lure is far and deep. Other guys were productive with swimbait slowly dragging the bottom as well. Clash City Rocker Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 Thanks for the info guys. I haven't tried Jerkbaits lately, should I go with something smaller or larger for cold water? Quote
