Super User flyfisher Posted December 4, 2012 Super User Posted December 4, 2012 So I just picked up a Kistler cranking rod and am looking for a reel to go along with it. I can't seem to find any left hand retrieve reels under 150 with an under 6:1 retrieve ratio. Any ideas? If i have to bump up in price i guess i will but i was trying to keep it in that $150 range if possible. I really got into crankbait fishing last year and this technique specific setup will come in handy...... Quote
bassh8er Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Pro Qualifier matches your requirements. I own all available gear ratios for this reel and have yet to be disappointed. 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 4, 2012 Super User Posted December 4, 2012 Unless your deep cranking the curado 51e is a great shallow/mid cranking reel. 25 ipt. Most 5:1 are around 19-21 Quote
Clint C. Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I searched for a while for the same reel. I'm going to be trying the Daiwa Exceler... http://www.amazon.co...=I1NI8T8LEEE6U2 $71 Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Take a look at the Lews MG series. It comes in L/H at 5.4 to 1 at MSRP of 129.99. Quote
Super User webertime Posted December 4, 2012 Super User Posted December 4, 2012 Revo Winch @ TW for 159, slightly cheaper on the bay. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 4, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 4, 2012 I saw the lews reel but have no experience with them at all. I currently own all shimano reels but have no problems trying any reel if it meets my needs. Thanks for all the advice guys. Quote
bass1980 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 You sure you couldn't find a LH reel in low gears? I'm a lefty too and when searching I didn't have a problem. I ended up with a Daiwa Lexa 4.9:1 for cranks. Can't give reviews because its just sitting on the shelf with season being over up north. Quote
bass1980 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Revo winch gen2 159 Lews BB 159 Lews team speed 149 Lews MG 129 Daiwa Lexa 140 All these have lefties and around 5.0:1 gear ratio. I have used the Lews MG and its pretty smooth and feels great to palm. Only threw medium cranks, no deep diving cranks though. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 4, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 4, 2012 Guess i was looking in the wrong places.....Thanks for the list. I think my local bait shop is an abu dealer so i will give them a try and see what they have. Quote

I have a huge problem with reeling cranks too fast! Quote
Diggy Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 you can buy a bantam curado..... Lews is 23 ipt, I have one but in 7 ratio http://www.lews.com/reels.htm#7 Quote

Clint, you could look at a Curado B38. That would slow you down! EDIT: Sorry if that is the reel Diggy posted. I can't make out the model. Quote
Clint C. Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Sounds great... Now I just need to find one for sale! Quote
LTownFisher764 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I just purchased a Lews BB1 in left hand retrieve in the 5.1 ratio and it is a really nice reel. I also have their tourny pro. I have the BB1 paired with a veritas medium winch rod. The combo is very nice. Very comfortable and casts very far. I would def. buy a second one. Quote
