Super User Sam Posted December 5, 2012 Super User Posted December 5, 2012 One last thing...if you see any curl in the line after tieing your knot you have burned the knot. Cut it out and start over. Do what is suggested above: wet the line before you pull it tight. Also pull the tag line snug first and then the main line. Then pull the tag and line tight, cutting off the tag line leaving about a quarter inch to a half inch of tag line. Flouro and Palamor knots can be a problem but the Palamor knot is one of the strongest knots you can use. Just be careful when tieing it so that all of the line on the hook's eye is included in the knot and you do not have a single loop on the hook eye that is not part of the knot. Other knots are available and you can always try them. Get a book on fishing knots and read about them and which ones you like. Experiment and you will find the knot for you. Quote
Topwaterspook Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 There is a site called " knot wars" . You may want to check that out. Quote

NBR Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Are you goobering the knot before you cinch it down? If not the friction of line on line weakens the line big time. Personally, I think more so on flouro than mono but it occurs on both. Quote
NBR Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Tukahoe Joe is right on with the weting the line. I call it "goobering". The line to line friction really heats up the line and it is especially true with fluoro. Quote
jhoffman Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Fluro and mono will degrade if in the sun Quote
bazzelite19 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Make sure after a few fish you retie, even if the line doesnt feel fraid, the knot will most likely get weekend from hooksets. Be sure to change your line regularly. Tie the proper knot to, fluorocarbon shatters and cuts into itself without the proper knot, try a san Diego jam knot with fluoro 15 lb plus, anything less you can use a regular san diego. Uni knots also work well with fluoro. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 How hard are you setting the hook? Could it be that you're overdoing it? How do you store your rods when not in use? Excessive heat and humidity will badly weaken fishing line. Quote
redboat Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Like everyone is saying check your knots, i use floro and if you dont have a good knot it will come undone easily I had this problem using brand-X flouro (not gonna post the name but it's one of the better known brands). I switched to PLine flouro and have had no issues since. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted January 3, 2013 Super User Posted January 3, 2013 I am using a Denali Heavy action worm and jog rod. I am thinking it is the knot because a lot of times the line is curved a little bit at the very end when it breaks. I will work on this knot or try another one. THanks Guys. Yup ... sounds like your knot. When I was practicing knots I would tie them to a jig, hook the jig on a post and pull as hard as I could without compromising my equipment. That includes a few hard jerks like you are setting a hook. Confidence grew everytime I did it successfully. I toggle between 2 knots by the way. The Palomar and an Improved Clinch Knot with an extra loop. Both are extra strong. Besides that it's all be covered in the other posts. Good luck. Quote
