warhook Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I am looking for some help on where to go and what to buy for starting to make my own plastic worms. Are there kits available? What will I really need to do this effectively? I want to get started but past experience tells me that unless a kit is available, I may miss something and make a...mess. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jason Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 Check out Bear's Baits, Jann's Netcraft, Lure Craft, and Barlows. Some of them if not all will have starter kits. In addition to the kits you will need an old microwave oven, a pair of gloves, and some pyrex or silicone containers in which to melt the plastisol. Take a little trip over to tackleunderground.com and read the dos and don'ts for newbies. That will give you a ton of info and save you a lot of grief. Quote
loodkop Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Short answer you will need: plastisol, a heat source, pouring pan/ cup, a mold, color and or glitter. Several suppliers offer kits. You can look at Lurecraft, Bears and others to get an idea of what is available. Warning: This is addictive! Quote
CPBassFishing Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 You can even get started with plaster of paris, water, a few baits, a pyrex container, and old baits to melt down. Normal handpour molds will come out with a flat side, but I have made a perfect senko mold. What you do is put a small, straightened hook into the nose of the senko, tie line to it, then hang it from something with an adjustable knot. You then pour your mixed plaster into a tall, skinny cup, then put the senko all the way down into it with a tiny bit sticking out. Then, when the mold is dry, pull the senko out, and you have a perfect mold. You don't need an injection mold for worms that are thick enough that pushing them into the plaster won't bend them. Quote
Saltfisher1024 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I have quite a few things I would sell. Some colors and glitters, maybe 2 or 3 quarts of plastic, scent and a 2 cavity craw mold. All you would need is microwave. Email me at schweitzershane@yahoo.com if your interested Quote
Clayfish Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 check out, Caney Creek Molds, they have the best of everything for that, even stater kits. Quote
