Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Geez....How embarrassing is it to be running the Indianapolis Colts? The most popular person in the history of the state is traded to Denver. Peyton Manning was cleared to play and a number of teams sought him. Now these guys have not only lost one of the greatest quarterbacks in history, but maybe future leadership for the State Of Indiana. This might be the dumbest move in the history of the NFL. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 3, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 3, 2012 It's kind of hard to argue that point when Luck just orchestrated an impossible come-from-behind win, including a game winning touchdown pass just as the clock hit zero. Looks to me the Colts are doing fine without Manning. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 Yeah i would have to agree that the manning situation actuall ywill make the rebuilding stage of the colts much much shorter. That luck kid is pretty freaking good. I am kind of enjoying seeing peyton break all of elway's single season passing records though, never was a big fan of elway. Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 its kinda like the old saying.......dont leave fish to find fish..... dont trade manning looking for another manning. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 Remember guys, RW is a Bronco fan! Jeff Quote

I don't think manning was traded but he was released to save the colts from having to pay a huge salary of 16M to a guy who had 6 or 7 neck surgeries in the span of a year.... The colts actually were somewhat lucky in that who knew they would bee that bad without manning at QB. Hard to believe a QB was that important to a team. Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 traded , released , you see my point. who DIDNT know they would be that bad I say. They lost everytime Manning didnt play/start. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 it's one thing to lose a spot start here and there but to lose your first 12 or whatever it was to start a season is completley different. I think Luck will be a better big game QB than manning since he always seemd to disappear come post season. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2012 We'll see...I have not been a Manning fan until he joined the Broncos. My point is, "Why give up on a guy that has built the franchise?" It makes no sense to me. I felt the same way when Montana went to the Chiefs. 1 Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 please dont take me wrong .......I really cant stand Manning. I just find it funny owners put down the horse that won all the $$$$......Manning, Montana, Emmit Smith, heck even Curt Warner to a point. the list can go on. Warner went to Super Bowl(s) with crappy frnchises and the minute he has a hangnail they release him. I guess I am a dance with who brung you too much of a guy. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 The game of football is one thing and the business of football is entirely different at times, it's about money and the future. From a personal standpoint I've always been a fan of Manning, best field general since Johnny U. and always reminded of him when I see Manning play. P. Manning is one of the very few capable of calling his own plays, a lost art in modern football, and he's doing a sensational job in Denver. On the other hand Luck is the future and he's on pace to have a better rookie season than Manning did. There is no right or wrong decision, either one is a gamble. One of my all time favorite coaches was George Allen, a philosophy of there is no tomorrow, the future is today and proved it with the a bunch of rag tag vets that no one wanted with the Redskins. He holds the first three places for passing yardage for Super Bowls. 1 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 7, 2012 Super User Posted December 7, 2012 I can't believe Manning is still playing, I have had similar surgery, but I had to have some plates put in. I would love to have had his neurosurgeon! I wince everytime he is hit. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Peyton Manning was Tennessee's favorite son, then Indiana's and now Colorados. He is without doubt one of the best QB's of all time, if not the best and a very popular player everywhere he goes or has been. I now watch for the Denver games on TV and no longer care about the Colts. I'm a P. Manning fan regardless of the uniform and IMHO the entire Manning family is a class act.........Al Quote

Both Mannings are class acts, there is a third son but I have no idea what he does. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 12, 2012 Super User Posted December 12, 2012 I'd say Manning and the Colts won out on this one. Nice to see them both being successful and it was much more "fair" for Manning to be released to sign with whatever contender he wanted instead of the Colts trading him where they wanted him to go or even keeping Manning through a rebuilding process with a back up that would slowly but surely be getting better than him. There is no pressure from a backup in Denver and they can compete for a Superbowl title now. Rare win-win for everyone. Quote
