Shoop05 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Hey everyone!! I am currently looking for the deepest running crankbaits on the market. I have DD22's but I would like something that can hit the 25ft plus depths on 8-10 pound test. Please feel free to share!!!! Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Depends on length of cast and speed of retrieve. You should get close to 25 feet on 8 pound flouro. There are a lot of deep divers on the market and you will have to experiment to find the ones that drag the bottom at 25 feet. Quote
Chris Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Are you casting the lure? If you are your going to be hard pressed to reach that depth because you wouldn't have enough running room to reach it. You also have a line drag problem that will hurt your depth and the limitations of getting a floating lure to dive that deep. For me the answer is a sinking crankbait or a crankbait that is attached to a carolina rig or you put a bullet weight on tie line before you tie the lure. I also have some crankbaits either built for me or doctored by me that are weighted to be counted down to any depth I wish but also keep inmind that from time to time you need to stop these lures and count it back down to depth because of line drag that raises the lure from its counted depth. Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Go to TW and search for Mann's Depth Plus Series. The have 20+ and 30+ but I didn't see 40+. Ive never fished these. Just googled 'crankbaits 25 feet' Quote
Chris Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Limitations meaning that when a crankbait dives it will reach a point where the pressure put on the tail of the lure is so great that it changes the angle the lure is diving by raising the lip. When the lure is raised this way the lure stops diving and lays flat. Depending on how quick it took to reach it's max depth depends on how long it stays in the lay down position before it stops and looses depth. Depending on how the lip is designed and at what angle determines how fast it takes to reach it's max depth. Line drag, reel drag slip, lure floatation, casting distance, and lure design are the factors working against a lure reaching 20 ft or more. Quote
Jake P Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 When do the SK 10XD'S come out? I think they hit right around the 25 mark.... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted December 2, 2012 Luhr Jenson Hot Lips and Luck E Strike The Freak are both super deep runners. The SK 10XD isn't in stores yet but it's supposed to hit 25+ with ease. 1 Quote

I am casting the lure, I have heard that a lot of guys are switching to sinking crankbaits. I have doctored up a few and they do sink pretty well, I just want to find some that can reach 25 plus, even if only for a portion of the cast. I figure if I can find a really DEEP crankbait brand then they will make up what other baits have lost due to line drag, even if it doesn't hit it's advertised depth. Thanks!!! Quote
Super User deep Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 I'm excited about the 10XD. Especially since it's big. I tried the 30+ last summer, and was not much impressed because it caught the same small fish I was catching on senkos. I also tried a couple of musky crankbaits I bought from Ebay. Never caught anything on them, so that's even worse. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Years ago - mid 80's I think, Bagley made a crank bait they called "the Dredge". It was a sinking crank bait along the lines of their classic DBII. It sank like a stone and you could fish it as deep as you could stand it. The issue was to get any decent casting distance or crank bait action, you had to fish it on lighter line - 10 or 12 lb test. Should you get it stuck ( and it was inevitable that it would get stuck) getting it back was problematic. Long extendable crank bait retrievers weren't readily available then and neither were the heavy hound dog style lure retriever. These days, you could fish that bait on 30 lb braid or so and have reasonable expectations of getting it back, especially with the other crank bait retrieval tools. Maybe put some break away split rings on the hooks. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Luhr Jensen 3/4 ounce Hot Lips should come close and they won't break the bank. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Take a look at the rapala tail dancer TDD11 Dives to 30 feet. 3/4oz bait. http://www.rapala.co...default,pd.html 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2012 Super User Posted December 2, 2012 Man, I have to own that lure whether I fish it or not. That's BEE-U-TEE-FULL! Quote
Diggy Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I wish I was able to find a place to use one of these, Im lucky sometimes to be able to use a kvd 1.5 Im going to buy one just to have in case I get lucky to get on a boat somewhere Quote
rangerjockey Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Thr jack-it 800 series will get close.. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 Deepest I've fished is a modified Lucky Craft 3.5XTR. The new SK crank will hit 35 on 10#, the problem is going to be throwing it. It's big. Real big. My favorite crank for 20-25 is the little John dd. it casts very well, it'll drag 25 with no problem, and it comes through everything. It's one of the cranks I've ever fished in big chunk rock. 1 Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 3, 2012 Super User Posted December 3, 2012 BassStar Dredger will fish as deep as you want it to. Quote
Mikey Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Heddon Magnum Hellbender I've seen so many big bass caught at Table-Rock on this lure. Quote

BobP Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The Luhr Jensen 3/4 oz Hot Lips Express will run 22 ft on a 100' cast with 10 lb mono in independent testing. Beware of depth claims (and misleading names) by crankbait companies! Most of us don't fish 3/4-1 oz crankbaits on 4 lb test line thrown with an 8'rod by a competition caster. I tend to believe Rapala claims on their DT series of crankbaits, including their DT-20. As far as anyone else's claims, "I'm from Missouri - PROVE IT". Quote
