Super User Ratherbfishing Posted November 29, 2012 Super User Posted November 29, 2012 About 2 years ago (man how time flies) I bought a 7 foot baitcasting rod online. It was exceptionally tip heavy and awkward and I hated it. But I'd spent $ on the darn thing so I kept it-secretly wishing it would break. Well, it did-not sure why or how, actually. It is now (with a new tip) a rather stiff 5 foot five inch rod. Are there any special applications such a rod can excel? (By the way, it's no longer tip heavy). Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 29, 2012 Super User Posted November 29, 2012 Put a tip on it and sell it to a midget who likes to punch grass mats. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 30, 2012 Super User Posted November 30, 2012 I do not know of any realistic angling applications for your newly shortened rod. However, if you put a high capacity reel on it, spool it up with braid, I suppose you could use it to fly a kite. A-Jay Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted November 30, 2012 Super User Posted November 30, 2012 Put an old reel on it and spool it with heavy line, then attach a lure retriever to it and you are ready the next time your favorite crankbait is eaten by a hungry piece of cover or structure. There is always the tomato stake option... 1 Quote

That being said I doubt it still has a warranty or else you would have already done this. Re tip it and you have a pretty good back scratcher. Quote

craww Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 You can use it for larger top waters. I re-tipped a rod that got *ahem* closed in a electric controlled truck window. Going from 7' to about 6'5''. I throw a lot of 1 1/4oz X-walk 13's on it, and it does okay. Tip doesn't load as much as it used to on a bait that heavy and actually does decent casting. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted November 30, 2012 Super User Posted November 30, 2012 Take the rest of the guides off of it and use it for a pool stick. Seriously, I would tie some heavy line on it and use it like a cane pole. Quote
