Super User BassinLou Posted November 27, 2012 Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Right before thanksgiving my kidney decided to give me a present in the form of a kidney stone. I have never had one before nor do I care to have another. I cannot even begin to explain the pain. I had to go to ER and they confirmed it was a 3mm stone. I have had 3 consecutive episodes Tues-Thurs of last week and they have stopped. However no stone. Never passed it. Went to urologist yesterday and now I have to have a procedure done ( I will spare all of you the name of it) where they go thru you know where and try to find the stone and zap it with a laser. I am scheduled tomorrow for the procedure. Long story short . Not a happy camper. All I want to do is bass fish in peace, is that too much to ask for? . I have had fishermans elbow now for months I am recuperating ok from that and now kidney stone surgery. What a way to wrap up the year. Wish me luck. Quote
DavePNW Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. Specially the surgery... but things always get worse before they get better! Best of luck with the surgery and your elbow, you'll be back out on the water before you know it Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted November 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Thanks man appreciate it. Quote
Super User MCS Posted November 27, 2012 Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Wow man, know how the kidney stones feel atleast. Sorry to hear about the surgery sounds like something I hope to never go through. Praying for you man, hope you feel better soon. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted November 27, 2012 Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Hope everything goes well and the procedure is uneventful. Don't blame your kidney though. It only processes what you put into it. Seriously, did your doc tell you how to reduce the chances of producing stones in the future? Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted November 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Fishing Rhino, thank you for the kind words. Only until they retrieve the stone, will they be able to identify its chemical make up and possibly determine the cause. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 27, 2012 Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Good luck, I know your pain all too well. By the way, there is no painkiller that will dull what they are going to do to you. Quote
tholmes Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Best wishes to ya! The procedure might sound scary, but anything that gets rid of that God-awful agony has to be worth it. Good luck! Tom Quote
HookSetDon Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Hope it gets better, Lots of cranberry juice, and water to keep flushing that bad boy and preventing further stones. I think anyways. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 28, 2012 Super User Posted November 28, 2012 Unless its pure cranberry juice stay away, the sugar added to the regular stuff can contribute to your stones. Google the jump method, it has worked for me many times now. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted November 28, 2012 Super User Posted November 28, 2012 Sorry to hear, had my first one a couple weeks ago, the pain cannot be described. Ended up getting surgery myself but not the laser. Post op check I am clean and no other stones so I should be good now, hopefully you get the same news when this mess is over. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 28, 2012 Super User Posted November 28, 2012 Oh! So sorry. Hope you will be feeling better and back out on the water soon. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted November 28, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 28, 2012 I just wanted to thank everyone for the best wishes. I will keep you guys posted after the procedure. Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Sorry to hear about it, been there done that. Urologist gave me 2 tips on preventing them. Drink plenty of real cranberry juice before bed, and stay away from anything with the artificial sweetener aspartame. Hope you feel better. Quote

NIce. In graphic detail you describe what he is facing, and then say, "I hope you are doing ok....." He probably was doing ok,...................until he read your post. I have never had stones, and don't now, but your post made me cringe. OUCH! Quote

Super User deaknh03 Posted November 28, 2012 Super User Posted November 28, 2012 I've had many a stone pass, and can honestly say the feeling of sheer excrutiating pain while you pee, then having absolutely no pain when the stone comes out midstream, is like a high you can never chase. 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted November 29, 2012 Super User Posted November 29, 2012 I've had many a stone pass, and can honestly say the feeling of sheer excrutiating pain while you pee, then having absolutely no pain when the stone comes out midstream, is like a high you can never chase. My father had a saying for that. I was stubborn. I thought I could do something a certain way, and my dad who knew better told me it wouldn't work. I had to prove him wrong, or me right, so I kept on trying without success to do it my way. He told me many times that I was like the guy who kept hitting himself in the head with a hammer because it felt so good when he stopped. Hope I never have to experience that "high". Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted November 29, 2012 Super User Posted November 29, 2012 Rhino, exactly! Quote

I have passed many a stone myself and to me the worst pain Is when they're moving. It's beyond awful. It Is funny though that when the stone Is finally passed , again, In my experience(s), there's little to no pain as It's making Its exit. Quote
Brian Needham Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 It is a "club" that no man understands until he joins the "club" you cant explain the pain, and would not wish it on your worst enemy. I literally feel your pain. 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted December 1, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 1, 2012 It's a heck of an initiation. Quote

When moving from the kidney to the bladder it was pain beyond belief (I literally thought I was dying) but when it made its exit it actually kind of tickled. Quote
