Looking To Get Into Making My Own Jigs. Any Advice?

Ill have some extra money laying around after christmas and i love looking at other peoples custom jigs and it seems relatively easy and its something to do when your not fishing. Do any of yall buy the heads painted or paint them yourself?

Depends on how much money you want to put into your hobby, and how patient and willing you are to learn. I posted awhile ago some info on how to get started. It will cost you roughly a couple hundred dollars, between the melting pot, mold or two, hooks, skirts, weedguards, paint and misc. items, so you do this safely and not get burned or hurt. I know there are a lot of things I didn't mention because it would be too time consuming to write it all down. I'm sure others will give you some insight as well. I'll send you some tutorials on how to get started. PM sent.

Its as easy or as difficult as you make it.Theres a real art in tacklecrafting but lucky for you theres vast information out there and heres as good a spot as any to learn. Dont get too ambitious and buy alot of things you wont need. If you buy premade jigheads they should be painted to keep cost down.Buy skirts in colors that are proven either to you or in your area you fish. Green pumpkin,watermelon and black are a good start. You will need some skirt collars and a skirt tool to finish up.It is very satisfying to catch bass on a creation of your own.Good luck and let me know how you do.

You can use a skirt collar or tie them, I prefer to tie them. You don't need an expensive vise and you can get by with one bobbin and color of thread is not important. As mentioned, start with just a few colors, no need to gonzo, at least not yet. Finger nail polish will work for cementing the thread. This is an enjoyable hobby and to catch a fish on your own lure is very kewl. I must warn you though, it is addictive, the only known cure is fishing and work so as to tie up your time. Take Cadman up on his offer of help, he is very good at his craft and has a lot to share.
