airborne_angler Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Im sure we all have outr favorite color schemes on baits. How about the ones you cant stand? I have trouble accepting the color "Firetiger" For some reason it reminds me of Northern United States Fishing where all that can be caught on that color are Walleye,Northerns, and Perch. We dont have any of those species of fish here, so I dont EVER see myself using that color pattern. Its very unattractive to me,like they took the loudest mix of colors and just threw them together. They all seem to clash Is this a bad idea,am I potentially overlooking an awesome color? So whats your least liked color on a bait? Quote
thrawn67 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I agree Ive never really had much luck with fire tiger so stopped throwing it. Quote
RyneB Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I know its a top producer for a lot of anglers, but i can honestly say i have never caught a fish on a black/blue color scheme. I throw it a lot, and have yet to have any luck. I have been in the boat with people hammering fish on that color, but its bad luck for me I think. Quote
Stringjam Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Firetiger is one of my favorite colors in life - in ANY water condition. Quote

-nick- Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I hate firetiger as well. Just looks weird, which is probably why I've never thrown/bought one. Quote

OIFBasser Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Firetiger sucks, another color I don't like is clown by Rapala. I try to use these bright colors when conditions call for it, but have more luck with white/chartreuse. Quote

Super User Raul Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 We dont have any of those species of fish here, so I dont EVER see myself using that color pattern I 've said it before and I 'll say it again: the bait doesn 't have to imitate the pattern of the forage base in any given body of water, it only has to move like if it 's alive and an easy prey We don 't have perch, we don 't have shad, we don 't have white bass, we don 't have walleye, we don 't have northern, we don 't have pickerel,we don 't have brown trout, we don 't have brook trout, 95 % of the lakes I fish don 't have rainbow trout ( and I seldomly fish the ones that have bass/rainbow trout population ) and all those patterns work, hot colors like charteuse, firetiger & fluorescent orange work too. Yes, you are overlooking potentially very productive colors. Color is not as important but sometimes it 's all that matters. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 I do very well on fire tiger, but I think cotton candy is a dumb color and I've also never done that well on glow plastics. Quote

tholmes Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I do very well on fire tiger, but I think cotton candy is a dumb color If you're "cotton candy" is that God-awful bubblegum pink, I agree. I've never caucht anything on it. Oh yeah, firetiger just kills in the small lakes around here, especially when the water's a little muddy. Tom Quote
bassman31783 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I personally love Fire Tiger. Always done quite well with it in stained to muddy water. I've never done that well with the baby bass color. I've caught fish with it but it's just not my confident color. Quote
Super User Tin Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 So firetiger looks nothing like a yellow perch? ;D Bubblegum and cotton candy colors work awesome up here in the super clear lakes during the spring. As for colors I can't catch fish on....Sexy Shad and red lipless cranks. Quote
mrbassky Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Color is so overatted. Natural in clear water except bright colors sometimes for smallies and spots. Bright colors for dirty water. Long as your in those ballparks you will be fine. I dont like certain colors at certain times but most have a place they work. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Red lipless cranks another vote for firetiger-it blows in plastics its redbug or anything yellow or orange Quote

koulaid Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 For me firetiger produces alot of bass in the spring on a deeper crank. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Whats strange is parrot(yellow-chart/blue back) kicks some serious tail around here especially in dirty water and cloudy days. How much different could firetiger be?It's still bright and obnoxious looking. :-/ Quote

Yes, you are overlooking potentially very productive colors. Color is not as important but sometimes it 's all that matters. Hot dogs don't grow underwater nor smell or imitate any type of bait yet I have caught many many bluegill and bream on it... but when it comes to local bass, if it is not the color of the food then they don't touch it. lightsout Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 There's alot of BPS lure colors that just make me shake my head. There are literally entire model lines without a single color I like. I agree it doesnt matter to the fish as much as it does to me, but honestly who designs a topwater rat and says "I know, we'll give it a zebra paint scheme". Quote
