I have fished the last 50 years with only ABU baitcasting reels dating back to the round 5500 C and 4500 C. I recently purchased a Revo STX and have been satisfied. A couple of weeks ago I looked at a Pfluger Patriarch and was impressed, at least at the Bass Pro Shop showroom in Des Moines. I would like and am willing to try something different. Any opinions? Has anyone fished with the Patriarch? Pfluger has been around a long time but I have never used one of thier products. Also looked at a Shiman Chronarch.

ABU and Pflueger are both part of Pure Fishing. They share basic design as well as parts and tooling. The Pflueger models are priced lower primarily due to lower marketing expense. I believe all the Pfluegers use a solid spool shaft like the Revo S, but they still cast well especially after a good cleaning. If you like the Revo line the Pfluegers will feel familiar. If you want to really expand your experience a Chronarch (or Curado E) or a Daiwa might be worth looking into.

Before the shimano posse gets in here and tells you to save your money and by citca curado chronarch , i will tell ya i HIGHLY recommend the higher end pflueger line. I have a president bc and absolutely love it! Also have 3 asaro bc and the perform perfectly. I would not hesitate to by another pflueger reel especially the patriarch.

The Pflueger Patriarch is basically the same as the Gen2 Revo STX. It does not look like it got the same updates this year that the STX did, so if you're choosing between a Gen3 STX and the Pflueger, I'd get the STX.

i have both. and like both of them. seems i can get a little more distance from the patriarch but not significant. when i decided to upgrade my equipment a couple of years ago i bought 1 of each brand. pfluger, abu, quantom, and shimono. the stx is my choice but could not go wrong with the patriarch. if you want to save some money, you can get stx gen 1 for abought 140.00, wich is great considering they were 200.00 before th gen 2. i cant tell any difference between the gen 1 and 2. i am going to buy up a few more gen 1 while they last. (like i really need more reels, cause then i need more rods!) it never ends.

Don't you mean Gen 2 and 3? I thought Gen 1 were the 2009 and older, Gen 2 the 2010 to 2012 and-a-half, and Gen 3 the latest model that recently came out. Be pretty hard to find someone with new 2009 reels still in stock.
