bassfisherman3526 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Hello can someone tell me what the difference is in reel oil and reel lube? Also witch company has the best? Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted November 21, 2012 Super User Posted November 21, 2012 Oil is used on bearings and shafts. "Lube" is a grease, used mainly on gear teeth. Quote
papajoe222 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 What brand you decide on is going to be a personal preference thing. Unless you plan on re-lubing your reels a couple of times a season, most quality brands will get the job done. I'm partial to Ardent's products and my kid favors Quantum HotSauce. There are others out there in the same price range too. Keep in mind that you'll need to remove all of the old lube or oil and to re-lube sparingly. Oil and grease attract dirt and the more you use, the more dirt you'll end up with. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 For bearings the oil that came with your reel is fine. If you don't have it, Oust or whatever is handy over the counter will work. You can also use Rem Oil, 3in1 or even sewing machine oil if you have one of them around the house. One small drop on the race of the bearing is all you need. You might want to consider a deep cleaning and lube once the season winds down. Quote
