I am in the market for a spinning rod to throw 4-6" weightless Texas rigged sencos. From other suggestions here on the forum I believe I should be looking at a 6' 6" to 7" Medium Fast or Extra Fast. I am more or less on a budget, if I spend more that $100 the CFO will probably blow a gasket, she already thinks I spend to much on fishing/boating stuff. ;-)

So I have been looking at these to rods

Abu Garcia Veritas

VRS66-5 (1205853) 6' 6" 6 to 12 M XF 1/8 to 1/2 7+Tip A $99.95

VRS70-5 (1205856) 7' 6 to 12 M F 3/16 to 5/8 7+Tip B $99.95

St Croix Triumph

TRS66MF 6'6" M Fast 1 6 - 12 1/4 - 5/8 3.9 4 $ 80

TRS70MF 7' M Fast 1 6 - 12 1/4 - 5/8 4.3 5 $ 80

St Croix Mojo Bass

MBS68MXF Wacky Style 6'8" M X-Fast 1 6 - 12 3/16 - 5/8 3.9 1 $ 100

MBS69MLXF Drop Shot 6'9" ML X-Fast 1 6 - 10 1/8 - 1/2 3.8 1 $ 100

MBS70MF Tubes / Grubs 7' M Fast 1 6 - 12 3/16 - 5/8 3.9 1 $ 100

Any comments or suggestions?

So many options to choose from in that price range. Curious as to why you didn't pick a St. Croix Premier for $10 more than the Mojo?

I'd pick a Premier if that were an option. If money is an option, the Triumph is a decent rod, sure to keep you and the CFO on good terms :eyebrows:

If I had to pick between your options, the Veritas 7' M is your best option.

If you were open to suggestions and you wanna stay in the sub-100$ price range, get a Powell Diesel! Wait for the TW sale and im sure you could probably get 2 for 100$

The veritas can be had via the walmart site for 70$.

Im a big st. Croix fan in their legend series but i do not like the premiere/mojo/triumph line. Just a personal thing though. Others like them.

The 7' m veritas would be a good bet or the mojo 68mxf.

TW black friday just went live. 20% off everything. Save your self some money and shop there.

I use a veritas fot my casting rod, and a st. Croix premier for my spinning rod.

Both are awesome, but I love my veritas.

My only regret is not getting the micro guides.

Really? I'm on TW website as of 8:40pm Central time and it doesn't say anything about 20% off? Actually I'm on this site 10+ times a day which cannot be normal for a human.

I received the 20% off coupon in my e-mail. I think to receive one you have to have ordered through them before. It may be open to everyone on Black Friday but I'm not sure.

You dont need an email or to have ordered. Its for anybody to use. It wont let me post the address.

Replsce the asteriks with TW but spell it out.

Premier trumps the triumph no pun intended. As far as Veritas vs Premier I'd say St Croix USA.

That's only for the veritas casting rods, the spinning rods are $99

Gramps any chance you live in CT? I own a premier 6' M/F I'd be happy to let you use for a day.

Hey iabass8 lmao @TW the coupon states EXCLUDES: everything worth buying lmaooooo smfh every brand listed is basically all that matters for most people.

I think the 6'8" mojo MXF is the best bet out of those rods. I have fished/owned every rod you mentioned and something just "feels" right about the mojo. It isn't as tip heavy as some of the other models in their lineup. Ultimately i think you will be happy with any of the ones you listed. There is also a ST Croix deal going where if you spend $230 or more total value on 2 or more rods you get a free rage series rod.......goes through the end of December i believe.

fyi the triumph is made in mexico not usa

Same with the mojo, premier is the only rod made in the USA on his lineup, if that matters to him.

To OP,

I own both of those models for the mofo and the veritas and like the vertias better. Its lighter and I can feel more with it. With that being said I have two premiers coming soon, I hope that I like these more then the mojo bass, little disappointed in that rod. They were a steal that I couldn't pass up.

I will say St croix hands down is better quality and craftsmanship, that's why I went with the Premiers, although as I understand it they are made from the same blanks as the mojos so I will see for myself..

Thanks for the offer but Missouri is a long way from CT.

Of 2 equal rods one made in the USA & the other not I will choose the one made in the USA even if it's a couple of $ more.

After several recommendations here about the Premier it does sound like a nice rod & the made in USA is a plus. I was hoping to get a Black Friday deal on a rod. With TW's 20% off Almost Everything I would have probably went with the Premier, but TW doesn't handle that line it appears.

Looked at the Powell Diesel but it comes with no warranty what so ever.

I think that BPS has the CarbonLite on some BF deal, but that rod was never mentioned here.

Actually I think the Triumph that I looked at in a local sporting goods store had a Made in China sticker on it, might be mistaken.

For S&G I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and looked they had the St Croix Premier 7' MF for $69.97, pulled the trigger while I was there so I should have it next week.

Kind of a stupid statement but okay..

To avoid the exclusions you can sometimes just call in and ask for it. works sometimes. Of the hundreds of brands on the site, you're right, the 14 listed as "excluded" or so are the only brands people want. Nobody wants dobyns, st. croix, megabass, deps, abu garcia, etc....

@iabass well u know what I meant lol Shimano Daiwa and G Loomis are household names as well as high demand.Dobyns and the like majority of people don't know such brands exist.

You probably think thatbased on the fact you are on the east coast. Out west dobyns is more than a "household" name. As is st. Croix, abu garcia...
