bassh8er Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Get it? Haha. Anywho, I recently bought a 50e and a 200e on eBay and the 50 has a black/plastic looking drag star, and the 200 has a silver/metallic looking drag star. Is that a difference in the models? I like the silver one better and would like to get my 50 the same one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, h8er Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted November 20, 2012 Super User Posted November 20, 2012 The 50 comes with the drag star that you have. The 200 comes with the metal drag star. You will have to switch one out from a different curado to get one for a 50. You can also order one for a reasonable price. As far ss there being a difference in the models, yes. The 200 is 7:1 gears and the 50 is 6:4. The 50 is obviously smaller amd comes with a lighter spool and holds less line. The 50 excels at throwing lighter baits than a 200. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 20, 2012 Super User Posted November 20, 2012 Just checked the tackletrap.com and they have a drag star in stock for a 200e. The part is $21.00. I am sure DVT or even Shimano can send you the part. My only concern would be the compatability of the drag star on a 50e. There may be some modifications that need to be made to get it to fit but I am not certain. As far as the materials I believe the 50e is painted plastic while the 200e is aluminum. Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted November 20, 2012 Super User Posted November 20, 2012 The 200E came in two gear ratio, E5 5/1 E7 7.1/1 Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted November 20, 2012 Super User Posted November 20, 2012 The people that I know have done it recommend getting the drag star, drag spring, and drag nut. Makes for a nice looking reel. 1 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 20, 2012 Super User Posted November 20, 2012 Out of curiosity, which gear ratio did u get? E5=20ipt, E7=28 & the 50 is 25ipt, going from memory but these figures are close Quote
bassh8er Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 I bought the 50e since I've heard so many great things about it, and the 200e5 to pu on my Veritas Winch for cranking. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 21, 2012 Super User Posted November 21, 2012 I think you'll really like the E5, mine casts great and doesn't over work you with the deep divers. Great reel Quote
Silas Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I have both also and wouldn't change handles. Both work well. E5 was a surprisingly great caster also. 50e delegated to finesse work. E5 gets the job done with 1/4 oz up baits. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 The Curado 50E star drag is not "plastic". It is a very strong composition material and is used to reduce weight on some of their reels. According to Shimano, they have developed ever stronger materials for the composition star drags with each new generation of reels. Quote
