Super User *Hootie Posted November 17, 2012 Super User Posted November 17, 2012 Am I the only one who loves old fishing tackle. Now I am not talking about stuff you bought 4 yrs. ago. Ancient stuff, 40's and 50's and older, steel rods, bamboo, solid fiberglass. this stuff just fascinates me. Hootie 1 Quote
TRYTOFISH Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 no your not. i love all the old stuff. dont have a lot. got a couple of old johnson centuries that belonged to my grandpa. not worth alot bu are pretty cool. i can remember fishing with him in the early sixties, the reel would mess up, he would dunk it in the lake and say " it needs a drink, and so do i". it would work great for about an hour after that. after a day of that, grandma said it was time to go to the house. Super User *Hootie Posted November 17, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 17, 2012 This is just a small part of my collection, and like you said, most of it not a lot of monetary value, just nostalgia. When I pick up one of the old combos and flail it around a bit, it really makes me appreciate what we have available to us today. Hootie Quote
KDW96 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 No sir your not.I have a bunch myself.I have a small 3drawer night stand with nothin but old reels in it. I also have 42 old rods of the same types you listed all stored in plano rod tubes.I dont think its really worth a ton a money, but some of it was my grandpas,so its worth a million to me. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 17, 2012 Super User Posted November 17, 2012 Hootie Cool collection ~ I have some older gear and occasionally I break one out put it into action. I get great pleasure fishing it and even more catching a few decent fish on it. It doesn't take long throwing those older glass rods, super slow gear ratio casting reels and mono line to be reminded of just how far the gear of today has come. Still effective but the bass have more of a fighting chance and somehow they seem to know it. It's like taking a walk down memory lane. A-Jay Quote
Super User scaleface Posted November 17, 2012 Super User Posted November 17, 2012 i have some old gear and lures . Im not a collector I accumulate it. Id like to find a collector and sell it. Heres a very old Spalding with baseball logo. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 17, 2012 Super User Posted November 17, 2012 I have a few old reels, knuckle busters, no anti reverse and a leather strap on the back for drag. The line looks like parachute cord, pretty cool, mine are in storage right now. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted November 17, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 17, 2012 A few more. Hootie Quote
0119 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Heck those Abu's aint old, I fish with 4500c and 2500c's every day. That Summit is mighty fine, looks like a receiver on an old shotgun. Quote
Kevinator1 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Oh yeah, I love that old stuff. I've collected a few gems over the years. My dad and I have some old rod and reels. Also have some that are older but not antiques. I have 2 absolutely beautiful original Shimano made Lew's. Also have some old plugs which are highly valued, plus some original Bagley & Poes cranks, some that have never touched the water. Quote

I bet you aren't that old.....lol Hootie Quote
