Bass Junkie Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Deep diving cranks.... I have everything from the original Normans in their cardboard boxes to Risto Raps to Bomber Flat A's and Crankin' Raps. Never caught a thing on them... I can work with Top Waters, Square Bills, Jerk Baits, Lip-less.... Just not deep divers... Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted November 17, 2012 Super User Posted November 17, 2012 Ive bought about 5 or 6 spinnerbaits since I started fishing this past summer. Got a couple homemade ones from the local bait shop and a couple dollar ones from Wal Mart. Never got a bite on any of them. Not sure if its the bait or just me. If your talking literally "catch fisherman" than it was a Rapala X-Rap... The twist is it caught a fisherman and a bass in the same cast....(the fisherman being myself) It was a summer afternoon and I hadn't hooked a good bass in a few weeks. After fishing maybe 20 minutes I hooked into a solid 3 pounder. As it got closer to the boat I began to get more excited, as I heaved the fish into the conoe I dropped it and the lure proceeded to go directly in to my thigh. Not only that but the fish was also on the lure still and was flailing like crazy... As my 11 year old sister laughs at me I experience a terrible pain(LOL). We finally got the fish off the lure and it swam off, we then swam off to the ER because I STILL had this lure in my leg. After waiting about 30 minutes in the hospital we are taken a room. After waiting another 15 minutes a doctor arrives holding a pair of pliers. He goes right ahead and rips it out of my leg... Wasn't to bad but I wanted to share my story... Don't wanna go off topic here but dude, thats messed up. When I was in Boy Scouts they taught us to push the barb the rest of the way through the skin and then clip it off. That way you can pull the rest out without it tearing you up. But I dunno. Maybe yours was in deeper or at a weird angle or something. Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Ribbon tail worms, heard so much hype about them, picked up a couple packs and have yet to get a bite. Ribbon tail worms are dynamite for me. Have you tried swimming them with a really light weight barely off the bottom? Just enough to get the tail going. Gets me tons of bites. Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Dancin eel X2 on that. Thought for sure that thing would catch something. Boy was I wrong. I was happy to lose from a snag. 1 Quote
RyneB Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Dancin eel LOL, my fishing buddy couldnt wait to get a dancing eel. Quote
BradH Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Sebile Magic swimmer and similar hard jointed swimbaits. I have caught a few fish on them but when I switch to something else I start catching 10x more. Norman Flat Broke. Hard to keep tuned. I think I accidentally caught something on it once. Quote

I probably shouldn't admit this in public but I bought 3, red, chartreuse, and Shad. Ugggh think they are still around here somewhere. Quote
CoBass Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 storm wildeye swimbaits.... x2. I bought several in different colors and none of them swam true right out of the package. Never even got so much as a hit or a follow on them either. Quote

They probably are not swimming true because you may be reeling them in too fast. I reel them in pretty slowwwww and they work quite well. I catch not only bass with them but many snook and tarpon too. I always have a few packs around in 1/4 and 1/2 oz, the Berkley ones work good too, I see no real difference between the 2 brands. Quote
hike4steel Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Dancin Eel, can't buy a bite with them. Finnally took them out this spring on a lighting up my gear mission. Quote
tholmes Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Zara Spook. I catch bass on other "walk the dog" type lures, but on the Spook? Nada. Any bait in firetiger. Nothing. My "extras" box is full of them. i always thought they'd be good in murky water, but murky, stained, clear, doesn't seem to make a difference. I just don't catch anything on them. Tom Quote
Diggy Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Oh yeah on those storm swimbaits, they all swim horizontally for me too, not one fish caught, but on the contrary I bought some clearance swimabits called slurpies that swim like champs. I bought one of those eels on clearance also for 1.79. Not one fish caught. I never caught any fish on my green live target 65 frog, I did however catch a nice snag i some weeds and it popped off the braid trying to free it. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted November 21, 2012 Super User Posted November 21, 2012 You guys go ahead and send me your BBZ and BBZ shads. I'll take em. Same for the swim Senko. I think the only bait in recent memory I've purchased and done no good on is the Bevy Shad. I hate that thing. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 21, 2012 Super User Posted November 21, 2012 I never had an artificial lure that I didn't catch fish on, given enough time. Good bet I may never have purchased some of the lures others considered to be losers. Quote
bassr95 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I too was duped by the yum dancin eel. It ran sideways at speed and just plain didn't catch fish Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 21, 2012 Super User Posted November 21, 2012 For me it was, and always will, be beetle spins. If I had all of the money that I spent on these things over the years I could have bought a new curado. Every year I buy a new beetle spin thinking everyone else catches them, and I should be able too. Never happens. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 23, 2012 Super User Posted November 23, 2012 The only lure that I actually caught a fisherman on was a jig, and I caught myself, lol Quote
Traveler2586 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Ouch !!! Let me guess, it was snagged - you pulled it free - and it shot back at you, so you put your hand up to protect your face??? Again, Ouch!!!! 1 Quote
unionman Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Anything from Strike King lol. You aint doing it right man. Maybe try golf... 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 24, 2012 Super User Posted November 24, 2012 Bill Dance is a very good tackle salesman and puts pro in promotional angler! Bill got me on the sonic battery powered jig and weight kit, can't remember the name? I thought this concept could work for night bass tournaments, spend a lot of time trying it without success. Got me hook, line and sinker with that device! Quote
TNBassin' Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 lol. You aint doing it right man. Maybe try golf... I agree with you. How can you not catch anything on their baits? Especially the red eye shad? 1 Quote

Worst of all the hook was pointed in toward the thumb, so it had to come out the way it went in. Quote
