Best All Around Jig?

i have just started jig fishing with the football jig and ive been getting good fishes with them. With that style of head cover, i was wondering which other type of jig would you guys recommend as an all around jig that covers grass and structure fishing. there were way too many jigs styles to choose from, so i just wanted to get different opinions on which jig head or brand has the best all around jig head.

I'm not sure about a good all around jig that would work in all applications as each head design is for a purpose. However, I do try and get away with an arkie head for this use and although not the most practical at times, I am thinking the same as you when I do this. I really like jigs with a 30 degree line tie on the head in this style.

I like to throw the alien head most of the time...It stands up well and comes throw vegetation well enough.

All around the Arkie is very good. I prefer the football for hard structure and a poison tail for grass.

i have 2 jigs that i really like. the siebert outdoors big o brush jig and the boss tackle gk heavy cover jig. both of these absolutely excel at what they were designed for (braid, bigger fish, and super heavy cover situations) and they suffice at everything else. pressed to choose, i'd go with the big o (superior heavy wire 3x cutting point hook that sets like light wire).

as far as colors go, missouri craw (black, pumpkin, and chartreuse) is the only one i've really ever needed. day in and day out, it's been head and shoulders over everything else for me. natural colored trailer for clear water and black for dirty water.

Similar, mix it up like you would a football head. The arkie is just a little more versatile if your fishing different types of structure/cover and don't have the luxury of buying many different jig styles in my opinion. Some days I drag it, hop it, reel it a few cranks and kill it. Like any other bait, try different retrieves until you figure out what the fish are reacting to that day.

I like the arkie jig because the arkie head will be a little more forgiving when I'm not fishing a more appropriate style jig for the area I'm in for whatever reason that may be.

When fishing rip-rap or rocky points a northstar football head is my go to, specifically the camo-craw color. The black series or the knockout jig has been great for me around laydowns and brushpiles.

get one that has the hook eye vertical AND recessed in the lead head. it won't pick up weeds and comes over timber easier. diff companies have diff names for it ie 'swim jig', 'timber jig' etc

I like a brush jig for a majority of my fishing but I also use a round finesse head and football head a lot too.

I fish all my jigs pretty similarly. The difference for me is where I fish them.

Uncle Josh/Seizmic grass stalker. Does great in wood and vegetation. I lose so many jigs in rock and dont throw them there any more.

Bo James Nu jig with the dual weed guard design should be a good choice for the all around jig, when he gets it on the market. The Nu jig is unique in the fact it solves the problem of having a hook exposed and set back fat enough to get good hook sets when casting a jig and being able to go though heavy cover without hanging up. To date no one jig can do this effectively. This jig has been tested by some of the best jig anglers and Bo has incorporated inputs and should have this jig ready to go soon. Bo intends to become an advertiser, so I it's ok to mention this jig.

You have advertisers on this site that have excellent jigs to select from, high quality with premium hooks that should perform well; try a few different designs and go with what works where and how you fish.

Have not tried sieberts jigs, but I know they are quality. I rarely fished jigs. About two months ago I bought a batch of northstar football jigs, the first quality jig I have ever fished. Powder coated finish on head, premium extra sharp hook, wire tied skirt, very resilient. At certain large outdoor chain stores I would spend a buck a jig more for far less quality jigs. Not anymore.

And I don't have the same hook-up issues with traditional weed guards as some here talk about. I use a stout 7'5" rod MHF with #14 flourocarbon....when I feel the thump I cross eyes and far more often than not I will boat the bass.

When fishing cover and or thick brush I will go to the arkie style head.
