What Kind Of Salmon Is This? King?

I caught this in silver creek ny yesterday, was wondering if this is a king salmon or what????

I think its a female pink salmon but I'm not entirely sure. The females get a green tinge to them closer to spawning.

Not a pink. It's a king, in full spawning colors. Nice mudshark.

Here's where it gets hinky. Coho on the top, and Kingho hybrid on the bottom. Note the enlarged adipose fin between the dorsal and tail fin:

John where was that first one taken it looks really similar to a spot I fish the house in the back the tree over hanging by the rip rap part in the back even the way the rocks are on the left making the little shallow pool. If its not the spot im thinking of its a cookie cutter copy identical to a spot iv been fishing my whole life and caught hundreds of salmon and trout out of.

The first one is from my neck of the woods. In fact, it's a "forbidden spot," though I occasionally get permission to fish it.

ah thats crazy if you go to Bloods rd in Lyndonville just off the parkway go down below the bridge to the east walk 150yds turn around you will see the same house and river "structure" as in your picture. If I was home id drive down there and take a pic to compare its seriously identical but its Johnsons creek iv been fishing since before I could walk.

Why is it that their jaw features look so much different if they are the same fish ?

Not a trout guy at all, just wondering.

Males develop a kype when they undergo hormonal and physiological changes just before the spawning run.

I've never seen a King look so green. It's funny how the same species of fish can look so much different depending on where they were caught.This is what an Alaskan King looks like in spawning colors.

I suspect it's diet related. Great Lakes salmon feed heavily on alewife, which is why they were stocked here. Sea run salmon feed heavily on prawn, which probably has a lot to do with the color differences.
