Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 7, 2012 Super User Posted November 7, 2012 2 years after the freeze I finally caught a peacock in Delray, about 2 miles from my home in canal where I used to catch a lot of them. This was a nice fight, I'm hoping there are some more. Quote
basshole8190 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 never caught one before... i've heard the strike is bone jarring. its on my bucket list: catch a peacock in south florida 1 Quote
CoBass Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Nice peacock, congrats. I took a trip to south Fla a couple of years ago specifically to get some of those beauties. I wasn't disappointed. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 8, 2012 Super User Posted November 8, 2012 Very nice indeed. Looks to be a couple pounds. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 8, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2012 You know I don't weigh or measure them, but I'd guess maybe 2-3#. Pound for pound they may be at the top of the freshwater fighting list, I never caught anything in Michigan that rivaled them. Quote
1234567 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Very nice. I've yet to catch a peacock down here, not even sure there in my area. I hear they do have some a little south in Naples. What part of Michigan were you from? Quote

JoePhish Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 That X-Rap keeps popping up in your photos. Might have to get me one in that color. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 13, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 13, 2012 That one is old and in real life doesn't look so good. It's a size 08, I was using it in saltwater, it has 4x trebs. Quote
CayMar Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Beautiful fish. I think based on looks alone the peacocks are my favorite. I haven't had a chance to fish for them yet though. Very nice fish. Keep it up. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 15, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 15, 2012 Went back again yesterday Pm and caught some more, this time I went with a light rod and ul reel. I'm burned out on the small ones, 1-2 pounders don't get it, gotta find the bigger ones. Didn't realize this until yesterday but there is a daily limit of 2 with only 1 being over 17". Quote
Shane Procell Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Good looking fish. Congratulations. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 17, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 17, 2012 One of the nice things about Florida, snook and jacks in the morning, peacocks and bass in the Pm. I used to have a ton of Peacocks in my backyard canal, which connects to the same place I've been catching those peas about 3 miles away, so I'm hopeful to get some action at home. My canal used to be excellent, many peas and some great bass, 2 bad things happened, the freeze and the county came in a dredged, the bass haven't been the same for 2 years, just yesterday I had some better action. I would love to go out in the back yard and catch some nice fish! In Palm Beach county they are making a little bit of a comeback, I personally have caught them in only 2 places and the sizes are small. Further south I understand they are catching them with much less effort and they are bigger. Quote
fstr385 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Nice! Ive heard of people getting them in Coral Springs, but Ive yet to see one between there and Weston. My landlord and I live on a canal, he said they used to be in here till that long cold. I wish theyd come back! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 9, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 9, 2013 I've been back to the spot I was catching them a couple of times in the last few weeks but only caught one. Before the freeze they were all over the place here, I was catching about 1-1 bass and peacocks then in my backyard canal. Quote
fstr385 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 was on Lake Osborne last Friday between lantana and lake worth rd and got a little peacock on a kvd 2.5 black back/chart squarebill. Was a pleasant suprize. That's pretty far North. 1 Quote
CyRaX Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 That looks alot like a Perch but massive!! any resemblance ? nice fish though Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 20, 2013 Author Super User Posted March 20, 2013 Peacocks are brightly colored, the one in the photo does not do the beauty of the fish justice. No resemblance to a perch. Peacocks are a South American cichlid, not really a bass. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 22, 2013 Super User Posted March 22, 2013 I need to get down to south FL and do some peacock fishing I don't think we have any here in Jacksonville Quote
