8 Inch Hudds And Revo Winch

Not to be confused with the Toro Winch either....

Other than line capacity does anyone think this reel (Abu Garcia Revo Winch) can not handle eight inch hudds?? I'm just not buying that these baits on this reel will damage the gears. As far as resistance goes a large crankbait pulls harder than a huddleston gliding though the water.

Excluding nasty backlashes with a heavy hudd on, can anyone think of any other potential failures with this reel and bait??

I own both the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Revo Winch, I have not had the chance to test the Gen 3 heavily yet, but would not be worried about casting this bait on a Gen 2.

I've owned many Gen two Revo STX and throw baits up to three ounces on them and they handles them great. Like you I have not tried the Gen 3 ones yet. Thanks for the input. I was fishing the 8 inch hudd the other day and noticed it had very little drag in the water compared to a deep diving crank I was throwing earlier that same day.

If it has less drag than a DD22 I would say you have no worries, the Gen2 Winch makes easy work of the deep divers.

never had any problem throwing anything with gen2winch. always performs well.

It should be fine, my only issue with lopro reels and heavier baits is the smaller spool sometimes slips under my thumb on the back cast. It's just easier for me to lock down on a round reel.

I haven't tried the Gen 3s yet, but I know for a fact that the Gen 2 Winch is built like a TANK on STEROIDS. You should not have any problems throwing an 8 inch hudd on that reel.

Thanks for the input guys. I have been using my Gen 3 Revo Winches and liked it so much I have another on the way. I have not used it for 8 inch hudds yet as I can't put down the cranks at the moment. It is unbelievable they can pack that much line on a reel this small. It is tiny. I prefer this to my Curado 200E that I just sold. I really don't know how they can improve this reel. I've owned Plutons, Daiwa Zillion Type R that I sold to SouthFla, and this reel for the price is hands down the best I've used so far. If you're on the fence about this one I'd suggest just get it, especially if you like the last gen Revo's. Now if this reel falls apart over the year I apologize for anyone taking my advice!! I don't see that happening though if they're anything like the last models.

Looks like you already got what your looking for but I fished 68's and 8" Hudds with a Gen2 Winch for quite a while and never had any problems with the gears. Now I am using a Toro 51 or 5501 C3 just to get more line capacity. I had the Winch spooled with 65lb Powerpro and using a Dobyns 806 rod I would get really close to the spool.

Nice bass Dcorp! I still have my Curado 300E. I may keep that around for a bit, if you're right about the line capacity then I'll need it. I'm selling most of my swimbaits over 6 inches, even a bunch of my 68's so I have dropped my line to #50 strength which I get plenty of on the winch.
