Ive noticed on all the SK Redeye Shad baits I have looked at in the local WalMart ,the split ring where the line ties to is an oval shape.

I purchased a Redeye off Ebay and that same line tie is a traditional round type.

Now I know im being nit picky, but does that split ring shape make any difference at all in the action of the bait, either on retrieval or on the fall?

Why would this particular one I purchased on Ebay have a round split ring line tie? Could it be an earlier version? Does anyone else's SK Redeye have round split ring line ties?

Not stressin over it,Just some curiousity...Thats all

yep, the newer red eye shads have an oval split ring and better hooks. sadly, the chrome and gold finishes on the newer ones is just as bad as the older ones...they start flaking almost immediately.

The oval split ring is on all new Strike King hard baits. I bought several SK cranks and they all had the oval split ring. I have no idea what, if any, difference this makes.

The oval split ring keeps the knot from moving around the split ring.  With the round rings the knot can slide around to where the opening for the ring is and potentially be cut or weakened.  The oval ring because of its shape does not allow this shift to happen, it keeps the knot where you tie it.

I would think that using a split ring to put line together may hinder your cast. At times a knot joining line together can hinder your cast,so a split ring would make it just that much more troublesome.

I have 100's of baits with round split rings, I have never had too much trouble with them, the ovals are supposed to be better, for the reason stated. I don't buy my baits based on what type of split ring it has, nor do I change from one to the other unless I have to (rust, broke, etc...) If I do have to change, it is usually to the oval type.

Im not overly concerned about the whole split ring shape,I just thought it was a little odd that one bait had one style and another had a different style, and they were both the same style baits.

Along those lines I thought maybe each bait was produced in a different part of the country,if thats even possible, with Strike King.

I collect Hot Wheels cars and ill notice a variation of certain minute details on the same cars depending on where they were assembled.

Guess im just weird that way(with details),but its a question I bet some others may have wanted to ask but overlooked .

I first saw the oval split rings on the new Rat-L-Traps and they do keep the knot where they need to stay that is the only difference I've seen, I do notice that the run a little trueier for the most part b/c the line doesn't move around on the split ring

I cut the split ring off, regardless of shape, and use a Duo-Loc snap.  I feel you get better action, and i can use a solid Palomar connection.  Don't let the convenience of the snap lull you into not retying, though.
