Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Anyone else hear about this? Apparently some publisher decided to edit 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'. She took out the line about Santa's pipe because she says it exposes children to smoking. Are you serious? The man delivers presents to millions of children in one night. He deserves a little something to help him relax. It's not like its a crack pipe. Is it just me or is this completely ridiculous? I mean, its just one line but the poems been around for over 100 years. It's a classic. Personally I think people should take responsibility for what messages their kids take away from various forms of media and teach them right from wrong rather than editing out anything that could be considered 'controversial'. And besides, from what I see, kids are exposed to much worse than smoking on tv, videogames, and even the playground at school. Does this bother anyone else or is it just me? http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/st_nickotine_patch_y27vCEdZZJXS4ikYyVh2xO Quote

I'm not for exposing kids to bad habits, murder, violence etc etc....but something like this is just ridiculous. There will always be someone out there analyzing the best and worst of what kids are being exposed too and they will drop the hammer down on anything negative. I think a huge portion of it is so they can gain recognition for themselves. The only recognition they're getting is that they're an idiot. 1 Quote

Super User MCS Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 You ever watch any Disney movies? Darby O'Gill or Pinochio, sword and the stone etc. If that is not exposing your kids to drinking and smoking. I think it is funny and I have never seen mine act it out. You all are correct it is an overly sensative society that wants to butt into everyone elses business. Shame, if people worried about their own actions half as much as their neighbor they would probably be better people than thinking they were better people. 1 Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 I enjoy being politically incorrect in a pc world, I was labeled a curmudgeon at the ripe age of 25, now 43 and still a curmudgeon. 2 Quote
