Super User retiredbosn Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Jason Aldean is remaking songs done by a guy named Colt Ford, self described as hick hop. BTW Aldean is butchering the original. Its definitely not for everyone. The new crop of country singers grew up listening the the hair bands of the 80's + AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd and other Southern Rock bands, no wonder its different. Quote

It's not his fault he was born with longer arms than you. By the looks of those arms, Jimmy Houston could be his pappy Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Not a county fan, and not a Taylor Swift fan But does anyone else have a problem with her "wholesome image" when each of her songs is about another breakup? She either writes an entire album of break-up songs for each dude, or she's been through a lot of dudes. Quote

I'm from that era, Southern rock and some heavy metal was really good back in the day, but just like country music, it has it's place. Any mixing of the two should be ever so slightly if at all in my opinion. I think the only band that should be allowed to cross both bridges would be the Eagles, as far as singles, I like Jim Croche, Gordon Lightfoot kinda stuff too, they also could almost be concidered both. "Hick Hop" ???? What the crap is that?? He keeps that stuff up he won't be around for too long....I hope !!! Quote

Stringjam Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Country music radio has always been pop. I think some folks need to pull off those rose-colored glasses and remember all of that big string-arranged orchestral lounge music that country radio played so much of during the 50's through the 70's (remember countrypolitan?) Even up into the 80's you had guys like Kenny Rogers, George Jones, Ronnie Milsap, and Glenn Campbell writing hits that were almost straight-up pop tunes. There's good music being made now just like there was back then, only now you don't have to limit yourself to the radio to find it. As far as Taylor Swift, I'm not really a fan. I'm not really the audience she's writing for, though....but I just don't really hear much in her vocals to interest me. My favorite female country singer is Hayley Williams......the only problem is she doesn't sing country (except for this one Loretta cover). There's such a difference between vocals like this and somebody like Taylor Swift. Killer, unique vibrato and some real character and feeling behind the vocals. Quote
Jake P Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 What happened to steel guitars? That IS Country music!! Quote
Jake P Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Not trying to get off topic, but Jamey Johnson gives me a tiny bit of hope for future Country artists. He is without a doubt my favorite current artist. This song IMO is amazing. d**n near gives me chills. http://youtu.be/27x9ShDEfmQ 1 Quote
