Super User roadwarrior Posted November 1, 2012 Super User Posted November 1, 2012 First of all, I REALLY like her public image. Taylor Swift comes across as very beautiful, gracious and wholesome. Besides her musical talents, she has surrounded herself with brilliant marketing and business advisors. Her success is nothing short of miraculous. But... What does Taylor Swift have to do with Country Music? She is the reigning Entertainer Of The Year and is the leading contender for this year's award. Somebody please enlighten me. Post the name of the song or songs by Ms. Swift that you consider "Country". Quote
kylek Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 anything from her first album I would consider country. She has some good ones on there, " Tim Mcgraw" "Teardrops on my guitar" come to mind. I am a big fan of both her old stuff and her new stuff. My kids love her too so and go around singing her songs all day long. I hope she continues being a good role model for the younger generations. craww Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Its 13 yr old girl music RW...I think its horrible, but its not targeted towards me. I will say theres worse role models out there. 1 Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 1, 2012 Super User Posted November 1, 2012 To much fairy tale in her songs for me, then the new song she has out drives me nutt's, if she wants to sing pop songs then be a pop singer. Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck, Waylon Jennings, Goerge Jones, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Willie Nelson, Allan Jackson, Hank Williams Jr and Sr. just to name a few, newer artist's come to mind as well, but regardless, Country needs to stay country. A-Jay I can't think of a single artist, there are a ton, Patsy Kline, Loretta Lynn, Dollie, Sarah Evans, Tanya Tucker, Tammy, Patty Loveless, the list is big, but if I had to pick one artist she would definatly be Martina McBride, that girl has got a gift !!! Carrie comes really close but my vote would still be Martina. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 1, 2012 Super User Posted November 1, 2012 You don't need a southern accent to sing country songs. Quote

shootermcbob Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I have to first say I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but my take on country music is that the lines between a lot of music are becoming less and less defined. I heard a country song not long ago...Trace Adkins maybe?...where the singer was actually talking ...er, rapping... I think much of todays country is really more like what used to known as "pop" Just my opinion. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Just heard her song on the CMA's. Country? Hardly! Conversely, I just heard "mmmmm motorboatin" by Little Big Town. Good Stuff! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 I'm a fan of Taylor Swift. As well as Carrie Underwood and Jana Kramer. Jeff Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 2, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 2, 2012 I'm a country fan, don't like Taylor. I admire her marketing prowess, but nothing about her singing is what I would consider "talent". She's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Somebody said something about her "old stuff" vs. "new stuff"??? I didn't know there was such a thing. It's all the same to me. ....um especially since she hasn't been around long enough to have "old stuff". LOL! If you like her, that's fine by me. But she's just not my bag of tea. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted November 2, 2012 Like a lot of newer country artist I don't consider her stuff to be country music. Even some of the folks that have been around for a long time have started to do more songs that I think fit more into the Pop genre than country. I'm not a fan of hers but she is a talented singer and has done a great job marketing herself and her music. Quote

Sfritr Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 NOT a fan of Taylor, not country... BTW, what happened to Faith??? She looked like a train wreck!!! I get the braces thing, but, have a slice of pizza and a doughnut for heavens sake... I always thought she was beautiful but it looks as if the gelcoat is getting a bit oxidized.......... Carrie looked amazing! Also, I didn't see or hear anything from Jamey Johnson??? That guy is a total throwback and I think his music is fantastic Quote

The artist you have in mind is Jason Aldean, I don't care for it either, he has some really good stuff though. Just heard her song on the CMA's. Country? Hardly! Conversely, I just heard "mmmmm motorboatin" by Little Big Town. Good Stuff! Was that the first time you have heard that song? They have played that song to death over here in Va. ....it still gets me groovin lol !! Quote
dave Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I've said it before, here in this forum (I think), she's not very good. I tried to listen last night to give her (and RW) the benefit of another listen. Couldn't finish. Pleasant to look at I guess (but aren't most of them) not to listen to. Quote
