Shimano Stradic?

I am looking for a spinning reel for Crappie, Bream, and maybe for throw light lures for Largemouth Bass. I am looking at the Shimano Stradic 1000 , I am wondering is that a good choice?

Yes its quality, but I think I'd look for something even smaller for Bream and Specks. I'd call a 1000 a light not ultralight reel.

I own one (2500 size) and love it! I'm with 0119, 1000 may not be the best choice for your application although with bass in the mix you can't go wrong.

I used to have a little Shimano Sedona 750 size reel that was awesome for that use. If you can find one of those, you will have a great little reel that will handle everything in the category you are talking, and at probably a bit less than the price of a Stradic.

I wouldn't use it for Panfish, but for bass use. All I have heard is great things from this reel. It's gonna last you awhile from what I have heard, and is very smooth.

I really dont like the small UL reels They dont hold enough line.

I'm a little cold on ul and small reels, I like the line management on a slightly larger reel, especially given the fact the weights of these reels are getting petty light.

Your application will be just fine. I have several Shamano 1000 size reels that I use for white bass and crappie fishing. They are just the right size for me with 4-6# mono or 8/1 braid. The stradic is a great reel but the symmetry or sahara will do you a good job and cost less bones.

As an owner of two Stradic 1000FI models, it's a fantastic multi-species reel.

Heck, I use mine for bass fishing 98% of the time and have hauled in some beasts with no worries other than if my leader would hold.

So there's absolutely no reason you can't use one for smaller species. None.

Now I don't know about the Stradic FJ other than reviews and chatting with folks. I know Shimano did replace some metal parts with plastic, but also have been told Shimano would stand by the product should any of the plastic fail.

Line management is not a problem if you use braid + leader.

I've got a 500 size Sahara and it is fine as well. Daiwa makes a 1500 and 2000 size reel which are somewhat in between...

Two of my favorite smaller reels i use is my 500 sedona and 1000 stradic fj. I use the 500 for trout and panfish, the stradic for bass, but it can do both.

Whats your budget ?

A 500 or 1000 size for crappie and pan fish should fit the bill.

The stradic FJ can be had for under $150 and yes it is a good reel. For a lighter reel the C14 would be the ticket. These show up on eBay at good prices and can be had for up to 20% off when the retailers have their holiday sales. As far as what rods to look at for it I would highly suggest the fenwick elite tech series. You mentioned bream, crappie and light bass which would either be a ML or a light action rod. The elite tech series has a "smallmouth series" and a "river runner" series if I am not mistaken. The river runner series is more geared to trout and panfish. I have the 6 foot 9 ML smallmouth rod and absolutely love it. It does very well with 1/8 to 3/16 oz finesse baits. I have fished many rods above the $129 pricepoint of this rod but at the end of the day this is a very impressive rod. Light weight, well balanced, sensitive, and a lifetime warranty as well. It has impressed me enough to the point of buying another one if that says anything.

I have a stradic 1000fi on a St Croix Avid 8' ML Mod rod this set-up does perch,gills, crappie, bass, cats. Tiny cranks SK bitsy minnows to 5' senkos. Sensitivity is awesome and 3.6ozs. The 8' length really helps the distance too plus reach over brush and stuff.

Can't go wrong with the Stradic 1000. Been using one for years, with an old Bass Pro Extreme rod. Put some 6-8# line on it and some 3 inch Yum Dingers weightless wacky rigged. Bass and bream eat it up!

And bass up to 3 lbs are a blast to catch! Great for shaky worms too.
