Super User retiredbosn Posted October 31, 2012 Super User Posted October 31, 2012 This is the first year we have tried to up the pumpkin carving around here. Picked up a 5 dollar kit and decided to see what we could accomplish. Anyway this is the pumpkin I did. Quote
DavePNW Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I carved an angler fish with my girlfriend, I'll get a picture up of it here in the next few days. But that's a mighty fine lookin frankenstein! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted October 31, 2012 Super User Posted October 31, 2012 Here's some inspiration for you. Every October, Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, RI has the Jack O Lantern Spectacular. It is an incredible display. Takes the better part of an hour to walk the pathway through all the pumpkin artistry. It can take longer, depending on how long you linger to admire the handiworks. http://www.bing.com/...lar&FORM=HDRSC2 Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Cool pumpkins guys. Im all about pumpkin carving. I usually go all out and get like 50lb pumpkins and plan my designs carefully over the course of a couple days before I start my carving. For me theres a lot that goes into picking the perfect pumpkin. First of all, it has to have a good stem. Shape is also important as well as texture. It doesn't have to be perfectly round or smooth. Odd shapes and imperfections on the pumpkins surface give it character and for me, it can dictate what kind of carving I do. For example, the year before last, I had one that had kind of a scar going across the top quarter of it so I carved it so the scar went through the one eye. I had another with little bumps that looked like warts all over it so I made it into a witch type face. I like the designs that come with the kits but I mostly just do faces that I come up with on my own. All that being said, I feel like the one I did this year is actually kind of lacking. Not my best work. First of all we were poor this year and a couple of 30 dollar pumpkin wasn't a very good financial decision. Aside from that, we didn't even get them until 1am on Halloween morning so I didn't really have time to conceptualize like I usually do. And lastly, I felt like crap when I was carving it. Got this weird pain in my side and back and it hurt to move so I was just trying to get it done. Here are the pics anyway. I did the first one and my girlfriend did the second. I wish I had my pics from the last couple of years. They are a lot of better. Quote
