I'm looking at buying a new reel, I have 3 reels I've gotten used. An Abu Garcia 1003lp, an Abu 6000, and a shimano curado cu-200. Id like it to stay under 100 I've looked at the Abu pro max and I like the feel of it in the store but id like some other opinions/options. My buddy has a bps pro qualifier but I can out cast his with my Abu 1003lp with just a super fluke on either line. Thanks guys

I agree with LMG on finding something used. You can find awesome deals on the flea market and other places on quality reels (Shimano Citica and up, Abu Garcia Revo S and up, etc). If you want something new I would recommend either the BPS Pro Qualifier or Lews Speed Spool.

Where would be the best to look at a used reel, ebay?

Ebay can be awesome if you're comfortable with it. Some don't trust buying off ebay. I've never had a bad experience. Also, keep your eyes on the flea market here. You can find some amazing deals. I've gotten brand new reels for close to 50% off of retail before. You may also want to save up for black friday. There should be some good deals then if you can wait.

I'm new to this site, how do you see the flea market? And yeah I was at bass pro Saturday and picked up the Abu revo stx I believe it was, the $160 one, and I loved the feel but that's a lot of money for a novice like me to be spending on a reel. I only caught like 20 bass this year cause I fish off the bank mainly and I'm just learning how to bass fish.

mdayton,

The flea market here is further down the page on the main forum page. Simmonsporting goods at ebay is closing out their stock of last years Citicas and Abu Garcia's you will be able to get a deal there. Also there is a guy selling NIB Lews Tournament series for 100 bucks including shipping. I have three PQ's the only reel that I have that outcasts it is my Curado E5, but the distance is slight, once you learn how to set the brakes they do fine. For a hundred bucks you can get a decent reel that will give you great service. Good luck, if you want links to the ebay stuff, shoot me a pm.

You can get a new Lews Speed Spool for $80 on ebay which is a great price for a solid reel. You can also get the Gen 2 Revo S for around the same price new on ebay. Also a great reel.

Check your local G.M. ours still has a few of the Shimano Citica E model for $89 dollars. It has always been a top reel at the $100 dollar price point.

$160? You must've gotten the old model or you got hooked up. The Gen 3 STX is $199.

What do you mean by local g.m? And i I just checked the website and it was the sx not the stx, and I didn't know there were different generations of the same reel. There's a lot more for me to learn about bass fishing. Pan fish or catfish I'm good at, bass not so much. Lol

LOL. I was gonna be ticked if it was the STX since I just paid $199 for mine.
