nickw234 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I'm looking for a good finesse jig and trailer idea for fishing boat docks. Do you guys and good suggestions on what jig and trailer to start with? Thanks, Nick Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 I don't know where you live, but in the Ozark reservoirs, the Jewel Baits Eakins Jig has a great tournament record over the past decade. That would be one to start with. There are lots of similar styles out there. Quote
nickw234 Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 alright thanks for the advice guys ill take a look at them. Quote
bmadd Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I'll second the 5/16 oz Eakins Jig. I like to match that jig up with a Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw. Quote
nickw234 Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 One more question i fish clear water is it best to stick with the watermelon and pumpkin colors? Quote
Vinny Chase Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 alright thanks for the advice guys ill take a look at them. Strike King Bitsy Bug are my personal choice Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 those are great colors for clear water. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 i second the bitsy bug jigs. 1/4 oz green craw color with a 3" craw trailer they are cheap and i have good hook up ratios using these baits if you are new to jigs i definately recommend these as ive caught bass smaller than my palm all the way up to a 6lber on them. great confidence building bait. Siebert Outdoors Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 One more question i fish clear water is it best to stick with the watermelon and pumpkin colors? Go with your natural colors. Browns and greens. I mostly throw browns like PBJ in clear water. 5/16-3/8. Quote
BIG M Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 GMAN's custom jigs are hard to beat and he is great to deal with. Quote
mrbassky Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 alright thanks for the advice guys ill take a look at them. Strike King Bitsy Bug are my personal choice I stay away from bitsy bugs these days. I used to love em but the bands on the skirts wont last long and the hooks will rust. :'( They catch fish but there are other jigs out these days that catch fish just as well and will last longer. Primus Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Question for North Star & jigs, does your finnesse and Grass jig have a trailer keeper on it? Thanks Quote
River Rat316 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The finesse jig has the standard lead barb, which works pretty good. At this time the grass jig does not have one, I have an older mold that I hacked up for a wire trailer keeper last summer though, since this is the jig I fish alot in the weeds, and it worked out nicely. I am thinking about adding this to the model that is on the website. I am still trying to get a custom mold done for grass jigs though, when I find out where this is going I will make a decision on what to do. Quote

Nine Miler Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 One more question i fish clear water is it best to stick with the watermelon and pumpkin colors? Go with your natural colors. Browns and greens. I mostly throw browns like PBJ in clear water. 5/16-3/8. I fish clear water as well, natural is the way to go, but don't be afraid to change it up. I like to have chartreuse on the tips of the trailer; with a craw, dye about 1/2 of the claws and see how it works. I even do it with worms. I think it gets me more bites. Quote
Beastie Bass Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I have great success with the Jewel Eakins jig and also the boo-yah bed bug. The last 2 years they have been the only finesse jugs I have thrown. I use to fish Bitsy bugs but the skirts fall apart fast, the Eakins has a doubled skirt collar with rattle tube holes so that's why I use it so much. Quote
DWG1984 Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I like the booyah nest raiders. Thier hand tied with both rubber and silicone in the skirt, I pair them with a 3" chigger craw trailer. Quote
skeeteroneal Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 www.spitfirejigs.com (his finesse model) with a Baby Paca Chunk trailer. For clear water, I would go with a PBJ or Watermellon. Quote
