JunkYard814 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Lost power back home. Hope everyone is staying safe. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I noticed you edited your post I quoted, Traveler2586, so I deleted the quote...Sorry bud. Ya, I thought the Mod.'s would appreciate the edit, I was like OMG when I saw it. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Local News - "He spoke Monday with the National Weather Service about how the storm will affect the region." "They anticipate that Sandy will kind of sit on top of the Mason Dixon Line and pound us for a good long while before heading north," [ MD Gov.] O'Malley says. He says the storm could be upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane by the time it reaches Maryland. I don't know what to say, or think, about that statement Since 8pm it isn't a hurricane anymore Quote
Traveler2586 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 You're going to get a lot of rain. This should flush the salt down the rivers and thin out the Bay. The Snakeheads should love it, and may take advantage of the opportunity to expand their range throughout the Bay. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I have to ask, what adjectives would the media use if Sandy were a Cat. 5 Hurricane? From CNN.com "As for whether Sandy is a "Superstorm," perhaps we should refrain from such a designation until after the event." "Sandy will take its place in history, but we will not know what that place is until many days have passed." http://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_c2 Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Sitting here on the PA/MD line above Hagerstown. Lots o' fun today and tonight. Kinda glad I dont have any large trees in the yard. I work for the state and they closed the office today and tomorrow. In PA, that NEVER happens. Ever. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Oops, outta power Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Still have power... No school tomarrow though, we didn't have it today either. Sadly I couldn't go fishing lol. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 I'm more upset we lost the cable Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 30, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 30, 2012 I've been seeing constant updates on TV and the Web, and you'd think it's the end of the world. Seems like a big rainstorm to me. We get these all the time over in my neck of the woods....and we "natives" still don't own umbrellas. LOL! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 The lakeshore is a mess. Couldn't get through with my pickup. Saw quite a few transformers explode from downed limbs. My place is fine, though. But what a mess so far. Quote

We get these all the time over in my neck of the woods....and we "natives" still don't own umbrellas. LOL! IMHO, and from my perspective, that's all it's been - a Cat. 1 storm. I'll head out in the AM to see if I can play with my chainsaw, but I doubt I'll see any action. Sandy has been kind to us here in Waldorf. But we won't see flood surge on the Potomac until Thursday, so I'll stay off the water until Saturday to give the debris time to flush down river. It's sad to hear 13 lost their lives to Sandy, my heart goes out to their friends & family. 10/30/12, 02:00L, and all's quiet now, we haven't lost power yet. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 It's pretty ugly up here on the lake. I have power, but swung by grandmas. No juice there, but house looks ok. Substations are are exploding all over the place. Couldn't get through Lake Rd to to check on my uncles place. Too many trees downed. I may have under estimated this one. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 12 blocks of Queens NY on fire and spreading fast. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 I wouldn't be taking a cavalier attitude about this storm, many millions of people will be affected to some degree. It's one thing to have a serious storm in BFE, but another in one of the most populated areas of the country. I'm very concerned about the hanging crane in Manhatten. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Anyone hear from Rhino? His home town was in the news all night with the biggest concern of the high tide set for midnight. The town next to his had a lot of evacuations, so I hope all is alright with him and his family. Super User Nitrofreak Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 The morning after, still keeping everyone in thoughts and prayers, the mountains here in my area have pretty much kept everyone out of harms way. J, I hope you can get to your uncles house and make sure all is good there, be really careful though, being in wooded areas, the winds are still breaking off trees and big parts of trees. My daughter and her boyfriend got really lucky while driving to his parent's house last night when a big tree branch fell on the car and almost penetrated the windshield, things could have been really ugly, but I am so thankful for it not being, you can't do your uncle any good if you get hurt as well, take every precaution you can. Quote
Sfritr Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 50+ mph winds and now snow here in Cincinnati. Sandy, I am NOT taking you to prom this year........ I picture Rhino sitting on top of a lobster boat screaming at Sandy like Gary Sinease in Forrest Gump during the storm scene. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 30, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 30, 2012 http://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit This event should be a wake up call for everyone to prepare for an emergency. We all need to collect at least a week's worth of non-parishable supplies, cash and fuel. http://www.ready.gov/basic-disaster-supplies-kit Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Everyone is fine today, AFAIK. The leaves were devastating! But seriously, it wasn't nearly as bad as the media made it out to be. Local news is still spewing doom and gloom. Some places are without power. I guess it's pretty ugly over in NJ - anyone have any reports from there? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 30, 2012 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 30, 2012 BFE? There's 6 million people living in my area, with the 3rd worst traffic in the country. Now try telling them they don't live in a heavily populated area. I feel bad for the few that have experienced property damage or personal injury in all this. I understand a few people have died, and that's horrible news. But i haven't heard whether or not they're storm-related deaths. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 30, 2012 Super User Posted October 30, 2012 15 storm related deaths. Quote
