Super User Sam Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 We may luck out in central Virginia. We have been upgraded into the high wind area for this afternoon with chances of power outages increasing as the day goes on. From about 7 tonight till 7 tomorrow morning will be our worst conditions. VDOT is asking everyone to stay off the roads and to call Dominion Virginia Power if you see any power lines down. So far so good in central Virginia. Eastern Virginia towards Williamsburg and the Bay are getting clobbered with rain and winds. Northern Virginia is going to get hit hard, too. As Roadwarrior says, everyone stay home and be safe. There is nothing out there worth putting your life in danger other than for a good pond!!!!!! And let's see how many new babies will be announced on the site in about 8 months. Quote

Super User Nitrofreak Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 Northwest section of Va. here, getting heavy rain at times and wind gusts so far of 34 mph, the really heavy rain and winds has not made it here just yet but has made it onto radar and is looking like it will make it here in the next hour or so, we are expected to get some snow on top of this with the cold front coming in my area, especially in the mountains, they are looking at upwards of 20 inches in the higher elevations, creeks here are already starting to top their banks, I know the folks around Va. beach and such are getting hit really hard especially around Norfolk area, I have heard from a couple of people I know in that area and they say some of the low lying areas and busisnesses are already under water. Thoughts and prayers to all of you folks and everyone else in her path. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted October 29, 2012 Super User Posted October 29, 2012 the size of this storm is amazing, i am just north of dc pretty far inland. some roads are closed due to high water and the storm is still 200 miles offshore. winds just starting to getting gusty. Quote

I have some friends on the South Shore whose neighborhoods already look like Venice, Italy. Oddly, some of these same friends poked me with "good luck with the hurricanes" comments when I moved to Florida. Mother Nature will try to screw with you no matter where you live. Be safe and smart all. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 As of 10/29/12, 12:00L, Sandy has been a ***** cat in Waldorf, MD. So far we're received some gentle on-again-off-again much needed rains and moderate wind gust. I hope this will hold throughout the storm. Our County Gov. has shut down all services, but as tradition would have it the mail came on time. This storm may fit another weather model which says "The severity of the storm will be inversely proportional to the media hype"; we'll see. Stay safe people. WHAT !, we can't say Pu*** Cat ?? quanjig Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 NOVA here! Just a bunch of rain and gusty wind. Just hoping and praying it passes quickly and my big dead tree holds its roots! I'm hoping since it has no leaves, it makes it less likely to catch the big winds later!! Quote

Traveler2586 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Local News - "He spoke Monday with the National Weather Service about how the storm will affect the region." "They anticipate that Sandy will kind of sit on top of the Mason Dixon Line and pound us for a good long while before heading north," [ MD Gov.] O'Malley says. He says the storm could be upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane by the time it reaches Maryland. I don't know what to say, or think, about that statement Quote
