hey. has anybody fished in El Salto, Sinaloa?? i guess most of you have at least heard about it, since its not too far from the US... im planning a trip in about a month, i got a quote for $430 USD per 2 days of fishing, 3 nights at the campsite, all meals included, as well as beer and beverages... its a 15 hour drive from El Paso, Tx...

BTW i have 2 spots in my car if someone is intrested... its supposedly one of the best lakes in the world...

I've fished El Salto the past three years. It took me twenty years to go the first time, after half a day there, I asked myself.............."what have I been waiting for ?" Good luck to you.

thanx topwater....

i just got an email from the guide, he says the last 2 weeks have been averaging 45-50 fish per boat...

i just have to confirm i will be able to take a day off work, and make the deposit... ill make sure to post a report once i come back...

I certainly wish you a great trip. Who are you going with? We go to "Angler's Inn". If you don't mind a small tip, I wouldn't take any line lighter than 20 lb. Those mesquite trees can be awfully abrasive. Made those misjudgments on the first trip.

thanx!! im going with El Salto Lodge, owner is named Siguismundo and gets lots of good reviews in the mexican forum....

regarding the line tip, thank you!! do you recommend braid then?? all i have is 30 lb braid, 12 lb fluoro, and mono in the 14-17 pound range.... the fluoro is discarded for this trip, but im not sure if the braid is the way to go for worms, and the highest pound mono i can get for cranks...

thanx!! braid it will be then...

i just talked with a person that went there on Oct 19 to Oct 21, and said they got between 40 and 50 bass per day, in the 3-6 pound range, the best one being an 8 pounder.... and that was without a guide... i know i will have a great time if i catch 50 per day, even if all of them are 2-4 pounds.... but im pretty sure i have a good chance at beating my 5.5 pound personal best on this trip....

i cant wait!!

I agree with the braid but I prefer a flouro leader. Just my personal preference.

thats what im thinking for the local lakes i usually fish, to use a 12 lb fluoro leader....but we dont have submerged branches, only some weeds... from the pics i have seen of El Salto it seems they have a lot of submerged trees and i wouldnt want the know to slip or something....

I went with 17 flouro and braid. Ended up with braid and 30 mono from the pro shop. We were fishing in the middle of the sticks also.

so, theres a pro shop where i will be able to purchase line if i need to?? because locally here i dont think i will be able to find such a heavy line, i order most of my things from the US but theres no way they will make them by Nov 16, even if ordered today....

Maybe not at your lodge. Never been there. I would try to order and pay extra for shipping. A fish of a life time lost to inadequate line would be a heart breaker.

well, if theres no shop at my lodge i guess i can always go to other lodge's shop...

unfortunately, ordering from the US is not an option, some stores dont ship to Mexico, and the ones that do, are way too expensive... so, ill check what i can get here, or talk to the guide and ask him for some heavy line or something, but ill make sure i dont go there without the porper equipment... double digit, here i come!!
