Not looking forward to this storm. We have a rather large dead tree behind our townhouse that is on a hill slightly pointing to give the house a giant karate chop. Our association will not take accountability for it because its not legally on their property. The association whose property it is on is so low rent, it's almost impossible to find anyone to even pick up the phone. I'm so miffed right now, especially since both associations have been aware of this issue for almost a year now. Made it thru the duracho but that was just a brief downburst of wind. Wonder what will happen with three days of tropical storm force wind will do plus 3 to 6 inches of rain!! Very excited................. not at all!!

They are forecasting it will turn NW and head right for Delaware Bay. That is not good for the Jersey shore or Philadelphia.

Not sure how it will affect the fishing but Im gonna be out there first thing in the morning. One last day to fish before the storm hits here in MD so Im taking advantage of it. I just hope I don't lose power. All my flashlights are complete garbage and I can't stand the bordem of a power outtage.

So far the projections are changing by the hour.

The NWC is now saying the storm will head to New York.

Remember the local news outlets use the National Hurricane Center's American GPS computer models which are usually incorrect until the last 12 hours of the storm hitting the coast. They do this for two reasons. First, to CYA. Second so they don't unnecessarily alarm the public.

Both the Europeon and American models show landfall near Long Island and heading inland. There is a wide band of likely power outages, looks like millions of people may be affected, if I lived in those areas I'd do my best to get prepared NOW.

However, the current wind predictions encompass the areas from the Carolinas into Penna and New England.

It is the wind that will be the problem.

5;am update, looks like landfall is just a little south of NYC now, around Delaware bay, it's still very windy here 6:30 and for me to be home and not fishing, you know it's rough.

A year ago we got clobbered with a freak snow storm that killed our power for a full week! Looks like we in for another "Frankenstorm" on Tuesday up here. Last year we lost two freezers and a fridge full of food. Hope it doesn't happen like that again!

Funny thing is that we've lived in this old house for 42 years and never had a sustained power outage like the one last year. And now, with this new threat, looks like things are changing for the worse up here each year. Very disheartening.

Hmmm.... gotta love the news hype about Sandy. A little wind, and a little rain, and suddenly it's "THE STORM OF THE CENTURY!" lol.

Heck, over here in the PNW, we get strong winds (35+) and heavy rain several times a year. Had a storm a few years ago that knocked out power to 4 million people. We had a gust in my neighborhood clocked at 110 mph. Not a peep of it was on the national news. Last winter we had a mega-ice storm that shut down 23 miles of freeway, caused billions in damage, and knocked out power to millions. Again, nothing about it said on the national news. Y'all get a puff of wind and a little moisture and it's "the end of the world!" lol!

I hope everyone is safe. We took a beating here on long island. House had 2 ft of saltwater on my first floor up to second step on the stairs. Lost everything from boiler to appliances. Trees on the deck. Had the truck at the dealer for front end work, they never moved it. Storm surge knocked out front window and completely submerged it. Total loss. Not having a good week. Last year Irene flooded the block but never came near the house. My neighbors been here 50 years and shes never seen this. The sewage treatment plant in the next town over is unstable and had a fire. Streets are undermining from water and tides. Plus, no one has power. I hope everyone in this things wake is safe and cleaning up the best they can.

I started this thread because of the general lack of concern for this storm, it's seemed last years storm that didn't live up to the hype was creating a false sense that Sandy would be similar. Sandy was massive and had another artic storm approaching, a very differ situation and potentially very dangerous as it turned out to be.

Members needing help, we are here for you with our prayers and support.

So sorry to hear the bad news and god bless. Sandy was a real bee itch. One of my co wokers lives in Long Beach LI and man did they take a beating. He's currently living at our job while his family stays in a hotel. Another co worker lives in Ocean Side and had 3ft of water in the first floor of his house and his floating docks ripped his back porch off. I feel so fortunate to only be without power in the Poconos, I feel for all you guys.
